This is Sue last month on her way home to visit family for the seasonal fun. She got caught in a Hoshidome Stitch snowstorm. Luckily she kept herself warm in her L Stitch down coat and Chained Wheatear Stitch woollen cap. The hardest thing was to pull her Griffin Stitch suitcase as the snow piled up. She had forgotten her gloves but had put a festive woollen Alternating Diagonal Stitch tube over the handle of the suitcase, so somehow she managed to keep warm.

This is a Japanese stitch used in kimono-making. It is small, yet impressive!
You take a LONG strand of thread and work Hoshidome Stitch on a piece of fabric. It is quick work and the LONG thread is soon used up. Looking at the surface you can not understand where the LONG thread disappeared to, as only 1% of the thread is visible.
Well, turn the embroidery around and on the back, you will see 99% of the remaining thread!

Sunday Stitch School Reference Chart
Hoshidome Stitch （星止） is basically a Back Stitch. Each stitch is spaced widely apart on the top, leaving just a tiny dot. This will look like a star, especially when stitched with white thread on black silk. Most of the thread will of course be hidden at the back of the fabric.
