WIPW - White and Metallic Hexagons

White,  Metallic and odd pieces of fabric that have been turned into Hexagons, that's what this week's Work In Progress Wednesday report is all about.

Hexablooms

I have mainly made parts, e.g. the white hexagons that fill in gaps in the pattern and the metallic hexagons used for the middle of the flowers.

Gift

The other hexagons, those I am using for the luncheon mats that will be given to some friends, have been assembled into two flowers.

This time, I am making blocks and appliquéing them onto a pair of store-bought luncheon mats.

The parts for the Hexabloom quilt are also being stitched together. I didn't count, but I think there are about ten newly assembled flower blocks in the box.

I have made a number of new blossoms and am adding them to the rows I showed last week.

I bought some more pot holders/oven mitts and will be decorating them with hexagon flower blocks and embroidery.

Mandala

I added a Mountmellick Stitch line around each of the wings of the 'UFOs' (Unidentified Flying Objects).

Furthermore, I stitched a small Buttonhole Fly Stitch in these voids,

Only a few beads were added.

Hexablooms

Very little progress was made and I have no photo of the little I actually did.

Stitching While Waiting

I had to spend more time in a waiting room. With my little sewing box on my lap I made the following:

The Gift and The Return Gift

The great-grandmother of the baby I just made a quilt for was so pleased with the quilt that she made me this cute little pincushion.

I then used the hexagon block I made while waiting (see above) to add to a premade potholder/oven mitt and gave it to her as a return gift.

WIPW - An Explosion Book

 Work In Progress Wednesday is not all about fabric today. I made some paper craft.

An Explosion Book

I was reading Annet's blog Fat-Quarter and found this lovely squash book. There you can also see a reference to a great video tutorial, where the book is called an explosion book.

As I had to make a wedding gift I thought I would use photos from my album, add love-related text and cut them to fit the pages of the book.

It was an easy and fun project. Annet, many thanks!

WIPW - Various Gifts

Work In Progress Wednesday will show you that I've had a busy and creative week.

First there is the 

Elephant Toy

mentioned in last week's WIPW post.

Ever since I first saw the design by Hillary Lang, in Joelle Hoverson's  'Last Minute Patchwork + Quilted  Gifts' I have wanted to make this charming stuffed toy.

Alas, although I followed the instructions to a T, my elephant looks a bit chubbier and the trunk seems shorter than the elephant pictured in the book, so I am a little bit disappointed. My animal is charming, I will give you that, but I will try the design again and hope for a better result.

Coasters

The same book inspired me to make five simple coasters, and here I am very pleased with the result.

I made use of what was left of a charm pack of William Morris' quilting fabric.

Greeting Cards

While the sewing machine was out (it usually has to be stored away in a cupboard) I used up some pieces of scrap fabric, and made two birthday cards.

Velveteen Cushion

Some more floral embroidery in metallic thread was added to the cushion.

I started filling the void around the oval shapes with various crosses. #3 Cross Stitch, #79 Crown Stitch and a few #128 Four-Legged Cross stitches.
