Sunday Stitch School - Lesson 74: Boucle Stitch

Welcome to night class at Sunday Stitch School.

After having learned more than 150 TAST (Take A Stitch Tuesday) stitches from Sharon Boggon's fantastic website Pintangle,  I was still hungry for more.

That is why I started this Sunday Stitch School in November 2016. I wanted to work my way through the many, to me unknown stitches, in all the stitch dictionaries in my collection, and any interesting stitch I had found online.

Today's stitch was found online, at no other place than Pintangle! Among the stitches in Sharon's Stitch Dictionary there are some that have NOT found their way into TAST - yet, as far as I know anyway.

So here is a nice Canvas stitch called Boucle Stitch.

Anyway, here goes:

Make a line of slanting stitches.

Then turn the work upside down.

Make a loop under the last slanting stitch I - J, without catching any of the fabric.

Then travel from K to I. Make a new loop around the next slanting stitch, and so on.

Turn the work upside down (e.g. right way up)
and make a new set of slanting stitches A - B and so on.

Turn the work upside down again and 

loop the new slanted stitch I - J and so on,

until you have a full set of stitches.

Try to keep the tension better than I did!

 Turn the work and look at it from this angle and you get rough waves on a stormy ocean. Or is it Nessy sticking her head out of Lock Ness? Or is it just a pretty design?

Innocent looking, but not the easiest of stitches.

This stitch is very similar to TAST 11 Whipped Wheel, but I made a band instead of a wheel.

So now it is time for Whipped Chain Stitch, Version 2, which I will call TAST #146.

By whipping the chain on both sides you get a nice 'knitted' pattern. Or one could take it for the Magic Chain Stitch.

It is time for Whipped Chain Stitch, Version 1, which I will call TAST #145.
Simply whip a row of Chain Stitch!

I added this chain in the last box of my TAST Reference chart

and will have to make a new chart as well as labels for them. WIPW work!

TAST -144 Alternating Double Chain Stitch

I am trying to catch up on some more TAST (Take A Stitch Tuesday) stitches.

Here is the Alternating Double Chain Stitch, which in my eyes looks like the Shell Chain (TAST#97) with the little Chain stitch on alternating sides.

Don't they make you think of a chain of paper clips?


On the TAST Reference Chart it looks like this. I don't think it is a good stitch for curves...

TAST 143 - Fancy Herringbone Stitch

TAST stands for Take A Stitch Tuesday, and how to Take A Stitch on a Tuesday is taught by Sharon B over at Pintangle.

TAST 143 Fancy Herringbone Stitch is made up of three parts, a base of Herringbone Stitches (pink) is held held down with small Upright Cross Stitches (red) and then laced in a fancy way (light blue ).

It wasn't difficult, but with all laced stitches, tension is tricky, and my result looks sloppy.

I also worked a set of stitches on my TAST Reference Chart. Later I will add the label with number and name.

Here the tension is a bit better, so there is hope for further improvement in the future! I hope!

TAST - #142 Interlaced Cable Chain Stitch

Take A Stitch Tuesday.
It is a weekly stitch event at Pintangle. Sharon teaches you the stitch, you work it and share the result on your blog (or somewhere else on the internet). You can read all about it here.

I am still catching up on the stitches I have missed, as well as giving them new numbers that fit into my stitch collection.

This stitch is the one I will number as 142. It is called Interlaced Cable Chain Stitch and you can learn it here from Pintangle.

On my TAST Reference Chart:

I found it a bit difficult to made the laced stitches sit evenly, Sharon of Pintangle makes them even and nice.
I must admit I'm not too fond of this stitch....
