Here is my homework for the five latest stitches learned at Sunday Stitch School, summarised in a Sunbonnet Sue sampler.
What do you associate with the month of June? Rain (rainy season in Japan)? Summer break starts (Swedish schools)? Midsummer festival? Masses of wild flowers? Or June brides?
Well, Sue wanted to be a June bride. She made her dress and veil, she took her bath and picked her flowers (read here about these traditions), and here she is... waiting... but where is Overall Sam?
So what happened? Did she get married? If so, whom did she wed? Did they live happily ever after? Or did she change her mind and run away? Or was she left at the altar? What do you think?
The outline of her dress is in Stem Stitch and the shoes in Satin Stitch.

Sunday Stitch School - Revision: Stitches 131 - 135
Time to review the most recent five stitches. Click on the title to see instructions and homework.
131 Interlaced Cross Stitch
Beautiful as a stand alone stitch, or made into an intricate pattern - Indian Kutch embroidery.
132 Dandelion Stitch
Easy and charming.
133 Sinhalese Stitch
This stitch from Sri Lanka looks like a wrapped Open Chain Stitch, but is worked differently.
134 Slanting Blanket Stitch
The name says it all, or should we describe it as an Italic Blanket Stitch?
135 Net Stitch
One of many filling stitches, this makes a nice fishing net, after all, fishing nets ARE knotted!
Homework:
Make a picture of Sunbonnet Sue using the five stitches.
How about something based on this sketch?

Sunday Stitch School - Lesson 135: Net Stitch
Let's work on a lattice filling stitch today - the Net Stitch.
First you need to stitch a grid of long straight stitches, and then anchor the joints with French Knots.
First you need to stitch a grid of long straight stitches, and then anchor the joints with French Knots.
Stretch the fabric in a hoop.
Take the needle out from underneath one of the joints.
Make two (or more if you like) wraps on the needle.
Insert the tip of the needle on the other side of the joint,
tighten the thread into a knot and pull through.
You have now anchored the joint with a French Knot.
The tighter the tension, the better the knots sit.
Homework:
Work a net on these three samplers.
