Ten more floral blocks. The total count is now 320.

Finger Puppets

I got inspiration from the Internet to make two finger puppets for a little boy's birthday. Handstitched on felt.

Easter Egg Embroidery

I got inspiration from Lyn at Lyn's Needlecase. She has been embroidering a stitch sampler over an egg-shaped oval to be used for an Easter Greeting card. Lyn is always making the most delightful white-on-white embroidery on linen.

I stuck, as usual, to plain weave, then stretched the embroidery over a bit of thin cardboard and placed it in a window card.

WIPW - A Greeting Card

Work other than stitching has kept me from making any progress on the Sunday Stitch School Stitch Sampler. 

Here is my meagre Work In Progress Wednesday report on the only work I have done.

Greeting Card

I had to make a birthday card. The floral print of this fabric was enhanced with embroidery before I attached it to the window of the card with Glove Stitch.

WIPW - Various Gifts

Work In Progress Wednesday will show you that I've had a busy and creative week.

First there is the 

Elephant Toy

mentioned in last week's WIPW post.

Ever since I first saw the design by Hillary Lang, in Joelle Hoverson's  'Last Minute Patchwork + Quilted  Gifts' I have wanted to make this charming stuffed toy.

Alas, although I followed the instructions to a T, my elephant looks a bit chubbier and the trunk seems shorter than the elephant pictured in the book, so I am a little bit disappointed. My animal is charming, I will give you that, but I will try the design again and hope for a better result.

Coasters

The same book inspired me to make five simple coasters, and here I am very pleased with the result.

I made use of what was left of a charm pack of William Morris' quilting fabric.

Greeting Cards

While the sewing machine was out (it usually has to be stored away in a cupboard) I used up some pieces of scrap fabric, and made two birthday cards.

Velveteen Cushion

Some more floral embroidery in metallic thread was added to the cushion.

Sunday Stitch School Stitch Sampler 

I started filling the void around the oval shapes with various crosses. #3 Cross Stitch, #79 Crown Stitch and a few #128 Four-Legged Cross stitches.

This Work In Progress Wednesday report contains all sorts of things.

Log Cabin Challenge

I have had little time for the quilt, and only managed two more columns of Herringbone quilting stitches. Seven more to go...

Sunday Stitch School Stitch Sampler

On this project as well, I was not able to spend a lot of time. I only added #154 Plucked Knot Stitch inside the leaves and berries.

and #177 Double Seed Stitch inside these leaves.

Christmas Cards

Postal service is getting poorer and less reliable. I decided to send most of my Season Greeting cards as ecards. For a few elderly relatives without internet though, I made these of cardboard, felt and beads.

Thank You Gift

I had to make a Thank You gift for a friend who loves reading. The obvious present was a book cover.

 

WIPW - A Greeting Card

Staying indoors, rejecting all social events and gatherings in the wake of the Corona virus outbreak, I have the following to report for Work In Progress Wednesday.

Now completed row #38.

Freeform Embroidery
Two stitches were added: Spiked Knotted Cable Chain Stitch and Vandyke Stitch.

Greeting Card
I made a modern greeting cards out of scraps of felt.

Work In Progress Wednesday today includes a couple of greeting cards.

But let's start with
Crazy for Crazy
I have selected the fabric for the next block.

Embroidery and embellishment will be in the shades of rust/orange/salmon.

BES (Brazilian Embroidery Study)
I have mounted the embroidery on a piece of cardboard.

Vaxholmskudden

Last week I made some Stem Stitch swirls. Those have now been whipped for better definition.

Round dots of boiled wool appliqué has been added.

Greeting cards

Two birthdays need to be celebrated with handmade cards.

WIPW - In the Post

For this week's Work In Progress Wednesday report I can show three finishes and some purple progress.

Crazy for Crazy
I dug into my purple thread stash to add the following.

Punch Needle Greeting Card

I completed the punch needle design. This is the front.

 On the back the stitches are flatter.

To secure the stitches before cutting the loops open, I spread a thin layer of glue on the back.

 I then started cropping the loops into 'velvety' pile.
The easiest way is to fold the fabric over a finger to see where to cut.

The cut pile makes a deeper, darker shade of each thread.

Compare the uncut left side with the cut area on the the right.

Finally I made it into a card.

It's a rather gloomy card with the black background.
Lesson learned!

The second

Greeting Card

was sewn in the style of Karin Derland.

Instead of the boiled wool foundation I used felt from my stash.

The third

Greeting Card

project is completed, but I won't show any clear details yet. Here is a fuzzy teaser.

All three cards are now in the post.

Leafy Note

At the quilt show last month I was given a beautiful hand-bound notebook with a delicate leaf on the cover.
I decided to use the book to note down my needlework finishes 2019.

I am happy to add a number of new drawings for this WIPW report.

WIPW - Four Projects!

This week's Work In Progress Wednesday report tells about four new projects.

Crazy for Crazy
I have started piecing a new crazy quilt block.

Greeting Card 1

I have just selected the fabric for this one.

Greeting Card 2 - Embroidery on Felt

For this card I will work on felt and use inspiration from this book.

Greeting Card 3 - Needle Punch Embroidery

At the quilt show in Tokyo Dome I was inspired by Cecile Franconie's fluffy embroidery

to do something with my punch needle set.

Do you know about Igolochkoy, the original Russian punch needle embroidery?

You need: tightly woven fabric, a special hoop, the punch needle, a very thin and long needle threader, stranded embroidery floss

Place the fabric back side up in the hoop and stretch really drum tight. Draw the design on the back.

Use the thin and long needle threader to take one long strand of floss through the needle from the bottom to the tip. 

Then let the needle threader take the thread through the little hole at the side of the needle's tip.

You are now ready to start stitching, or rather punching the needled through the fabric.

 

Go down and up while moving a tiny step forward - imagine you are a sewing machine!
