WIPW - Pile 'em On is Completed

Thank you for kind comments and I am sorry I have been too busy to answer them.  I hope my work situation will allow me more 'blogging time' soon.

In this week's Work In Progress Wednesday report I can show you the completed

Pile 'em On

 The background is made up of blocks of Canvas work, the flames of Pulled work and the circle is filled with 'any stitch' piled on top of other stitches, and made of 'orts' (short lenghts of thread). The border is crowded with linear stitches

and the 'icing on the cake' is a braid made of messy thread and beads

Now I want to start a project of neater stitches!

WIPW - Hard Work

Remember me? Queenie Patch? Remember WIPW, Work In Progress Wednesday? I am not surprised if it all seems vague; I haven't posted for a long time and have made no report on my progress for ages.

However,
I HAVE been working hard, in five-minute sessions, on my Pile 'em On embroidery and am happy to see the beginning of the end of this project. So here is my WIPW report:

Top row, from left:
mint green Cushion Stitch, pink and grey Scotish Stitch,  blue variegated Chequer Stitch, light blue Foliage Stitch

Second row, from left:
blue Knitting Stitch, light blue Arrow Stitch, pink and grey Jaquared Stitch, green and blue Broad Stem Stitch

Third row, from left:
variegated Herringbone Stitch, dark pink and blue Darned Web Stitch, pink and blue Shell Stitch, light grey Upright Gobelin Stitch

In between the Pulled Stitches in white, there is a low row of stitches, from left:
variegated Knotted Stitch, blue Greek Stitch, blue and green Hungarian Stitch

Underneath you can see a row of, from left:
green  Flower Stitch, bright blue Floral Stitch, pink and green Perspective Stitch, variegated Compact Filling Stitch, dark pink Rapid Stitch




Here is a better shot of the green Flower Stitch, and to the left of that variegated blue Florentine Stitch.


Here we have the light blue Foliage Stitch again, underneath is the Broad Stem Stitch, and the Upright Gobeline Stitch.
There is a little section of pink Cross Stitch and to the right, variegated Parisian Stitch.

In between the white Pulled work you see: blue and green Hungarian Stitch and light blue Diamond Straight Stitch. To the right is grey Half Cross Stitch and pink and green Florentine Stitch (Bargello style).

In the bottom row, from left: dark pink Rapid Stitch, light blue Spring Stitch, green Cross Stitch (two different sizes), blue Herringbone Stitch and the pink and green Florentine Stitch.


Finally in the picture below, on the right side are four stitches:
(next to the pink and green Florentine Stitch) we see, variegated Algerian Eye Stitch, dark blue and pink Triangle Stitch, light blue Algerian Eye Stitch and a small section of mint green Gobelin Stitch in two different lenghts.

Phew! A good number of stitches!

I then outlined the 'flames' with Stem Stitch.

Finally I have added a proper border and started piling on stitches there, too.

Messy is the middle name of this Pile 'em On stitch sampler! Hopefully completed by next Wednesday!

WIPW - Pockets of Time

Many of my daily chores keep me away from the computer so blogging has been very limited. Luckily I have been able to find pockets of time for needlework and have added the following stitches to my

I pulled these Eastern stitches too much, but they were fun to make. Eastern Stitch was included in the TAST (Take A Stitch Tuesday) project and this is what I wrote about it two years ago.

In the middle are the stitches in white that my mother made many years ago. When I found this UFO of hers, I tried to complete it, but my tension is totally different from hers. Instead I started working my Canvas stitch sampler around her work.

I have already started on some new Canvas stitches so next week's WIPW report will contain a number of new ones.

I have also started work on the Hanging Hina Dolls for this year. Watch this space as they are coming up soon!

WIPW - Holiday Stitching

Happy New Year!
Here is the first Work In Progress Wednesday report for 2016.

I was lucky enough to have the time and opportunity to work a number of Canvas stitches on the

Pile' em On

Underneath the colourful Half Rhodes stitches of last year, 

there are Leviathan Stitches in green.

Beside the Half Rhodes stitches there are three Norwich stitches, the top one was worked last year and the other two this side of 2016. 

Next to them are Diagonal Cross stitches in green and blue,

then a set of Underline stitch in variegated blue, 

and underneath Rice Stitch

The Underline stitches and Rice stitches can be seen in this picture, too, on the left.

Then we've got Italian Cross stitch in blue, Montenegrin stitch in grey, and Oblong Cross stitch in variegated light blue.

The very compact grey stitches are half worked Upright Crosses, and so are the green ones.

The needle is resting in a set of proper Upright Crosses.

As you can see there are still a lot of blank areas to fill...

WIPW - Don't They Look Good Together?

For the (probably) last Work In Progress Wednesday report of the year I can report on some progress on the Pile 'em On and the completion of the Chicken Scratch project.

Here I worked the Half Rhodes Stitch in various colours and the Norwich Stitch in light grey. Both were easy and fun, and had they been worked on real canvas they would have looked much neater.

I completed the central band of stitches on the Chicken Scratch cushion. (Excuse the blurred photo).

Then I made it into a cushion. I added lace at the shorter ends so that it would look good next to the charming cushion my friend Jacquie Harvey once made for me. Don't they look good together!

WIPW - Not Much To Write (Home) About

It has been another busy week with little time for embroidery. My Work In Progress Wednesday report is not much to write (home) about, but here goes:

Pile 'em On

 I added three columns of Canvas Fern Stitch.
They are framed on two sides by Four Sided Stitch in white that my Mum once started on this cloth. I think she intended to make a small table runner. When I first found this project amongst her belongings I thought of completing the table runner, but the tension of my stitches did not match that of hers so I turned this piece of cloth into my own free form embroidery project, Pile 'em On.

On the 'chicken farm' the crosses are beginning to twinkle like stars...

Off to busy myself with other things than embroidery, I'm afraid.

WIPW - One week delayed

Last week I had no opportunity to post a Work In Progress Wednesday report. Sorry!

I was able to make a little bit of progress, though, on my projects.

Chicken Scratch

Three strands of embroidery floss frame the red squares on the Gingham check, and red floss outline a larger area.

I then started stitching a new area in the middle of the cloth.

 Three Canvas stitches were used to fill in the background; Plaited Stitch (blue and variegated blue) Crossed Goblin Stitch (gray) and I finished the light green Reversed Cross Stitch that I had left half finished in July.

WIPW - A Dancing Doll Needlecase

Today, Work In Progress Wednesday  is about

Conveyor Belt Needle Case

I completed it with a few stitches, a 'tongue' and a little metal mesh bead.

 When I showed the work last week, a professional designer told me she saw a dancing figure in this one. I hadn't noticed but think she is right!

This is the other side.

With this project out of the way, what shall I do, start a new one? No, wait, there are some UFOs. I'll get to work on them first.

This Chicken Scratch project is something I have only been working on while travelling. However, I will probably not go on a train journey for some time, so will complete this at home.

WIPW - Too Hot to Stitch

May I begin with a big THANK YOU for all the kind comments on my last post, and please accept my apologies for not having answered your comments, or visited your blogs.

It was my intention to have completed the Fruity Cushion by now, to have added a lot more canvas stitches to my Pile 'em On, to have finished the Music block for NHK's Partnership Quilt project and to have started a new piece of clothing with Swedish wool embroidery.

Alas, my days are filled with million other things, so the WIPW report this week is another  meagre one.

The newly added canvas stitches are:
Double Cross Stich in light blue, and a half finished block of Reversed Cross Stitch in light green. Another coloured thread will be worked on top of these stitches to complete them.

Fruity Cushion

Here I have added new stitches to a number of areas.

It is H O T in Tokyo and hard to stitch. I don't know when my next WIP report will be...

Work In Progress Wednesday - Sloppier than Sloppy

I have not been able to spend much time,  and even less focus, on my needlework recently. This report shows that most of my work is very sloppy.

I have only worked on the canvas stitches:

 This is an overview picture of the eight stitches I've added since last report (starting with the fourth from the top right).

 Renaissance Stitch (gray and pink), Milanese Stitch (variegated)

 Linen Stitch (blue), Plait Stitch (pink)

 Long-Armed Stitch (gray), Greek Stitch (wine pink)

Knotted Stitch (pink) which is spaced wrongly and not worked in individual rows!, Double Stitch (gray) still in progress.

Extra! A Birthday Card
I made a birthday card with a stumpwork portrait.

With this portrait I took a bit of care, but only used items from my stash. The turtle neck jumper is made from nylon 'mesh craft' material, i.e. the same as tights (panty hose) are made from. The silvery treads add a bit of sparkle.

My time at the computer is very limited, so please excuse me if I won't be able to answer any comments.

WIPW - What is terry cloth thread?

Work In Progress Wednesday.


Last week a small piece of terry cloth thread was featured in the circle of Pile 'em On. Some readers asked about it, so here is a picture.

 

It is too thick to force though the fabric so it is mainly suited for couching or weaving.

For the circle I tried my hand at weaving with the terry cloth thread.

 A slip of paper underneath prevents the needle snagging other threads.

The result is not impressive; the weaving feature is not noticable, but it adds a soft 'bump'.

I worked the last flame of pulled work with Four Sided Stitch.

It was time to start using other stitches, like Surface Satin stitch and French Knots.

WIPW - More Couching

I've had little time for stitching this past week. My Work In Progress Wednesday report is short:

Pile 'em On
A short string of 'terry cloth yarn' was added to the circle (along the border, it's light blue).
A tiny section of a flame was decorated with pulled work in free style stem stitch.

 For the canvas work I made two new blocks

The couching is almost completed. I will soon start adding other stitches.

WIPW - Couching

A week passes so quickly and here is my Work In Progress Wednesday report.

Pile 'em On

I made more Buttonhole rings, but this time they are joined. Look to see the result and how I made them.

To fill in another flame I worked Gobelin Filling Stitch

They are not really 'pulled stitches' but look good anyway next to the free form Cretan stitches.

For my training with Canvas stitches I made three new ones:
