Work In Progress Wednesday is proud to report on the completion of the 

Velveteen Cushion

At last, the cushion is completed and is now resting on the day bed. It took far longer to reach this stage than I had anticipated. Well, it is my own doing - I just added on things all the time. It is a nice way to work, to start in the middle or in a corner, and then play it by the ear, adding things along the way.

The end result is a cushion that has no back, but TWO fronts, and I will turn the cushion around each day to vary the look. One side for odd days and the other for even days.

Here you can see how well it goes with the quilt I made 17 years ago of the same fabric.

On the other side, I have only used the grey velveteen, and some grey+metallic print fabric, raspberry pink batik for the circles,  a length of silver bias tape, and lots of embroidery in mainly metallic thread.

I worked three stitches on the two circles left from last week:

The little circle has #212 Loose French Knot Stitch (in orange) while the larger circle is filled with #176 Buttonhole Cross Stitch and the green machine braided edge is held down with #171 Ray Stitch.

I worked on the appliquéd circles.

#7 Gate Stitch (blue crepe fabric), #9 Interlaced Running Stitch (orange Shantung silk) and #44 Mille Fleur Stitch (floral print fabric).

WIPW - Slow Progress

It has been another week of slow progress, so not much to report on for Work In Progress Wednesday.

Velveteen Cushion

The assembly has started, and one seam connects the front with the back of the cushion. Only hand stitching on this cushion so the seams will take some time.

Sunday Stitch School Stitch Sampler

There are five more circles, all appliquéd, among the previous circles. They are still bare, but ready for being decorated with embroidery stitches from the SSSS collection.

One of the circles has been edged with a machine-made braid.

Phew! At last I have a stitching completion to report on Work In Progress Wednesday.

Velveteen Cushion

Yes, I have finally completed the embroidery of both sides of the Velveteen Cushion. 

It had been my intention to have the work done by the end of January, and what is it now? Middle of May!!! Am I such a slow worker? Or has it been so fun to just add more and more details? I want to think it is the latter reason it has taken this long.

Now what remains is of course the construction - to join the front and the back, to add a zipper and find a filling for the cushion. I wonder how long that will take?

The last of the twigs with Closed Fly Stitch were done.

The circles appliquéd last week have now been decorated with embroidery.

#202 Fly Stitch with Twisted Ties in pink, #205 Glove Stitch in yellow and some more of #208 Star Filling Stitch (purple and pink) were used.

It has been a busy week and not much time has been spent on the stitching projects, but here is my Work In Progress Wednesday report.

Velveteen Cushion

I added crosses in silver thread over the raspberry pink fabric covered plastic cups. 

Then a sprinkle of #208 Star Filling Stitch nearby.

Furthermore I used Closed Fly Stitch to make some green leaves.

More fabric scraps were used to make circles, then appliquéd on. One of them got an edge treatment of #208 Star Filling Stitch.

The other circles will have to wait a bit before I have time to embellish them.

WIPW - One Side Completed

 Work In Progress Wednesday. Here is this week's report.

Velveteen Cushion

I have completed the front of the cushion. In total there are 28 plastic cups set in the border. They come in  three sizes and are all covered with grey fabric. The smallest, there are 16 of them, are over-stitched with crosses in metallic thread.  The two largest cups have a grid of metallic thread over them. The remaining 10 have metallic print in the fabric and there was no need to add any embroidery.

The back of the cushion still has some work before it is completed.

Two circles in very fine voile found their way next to the other circles. They are stitched with #71 Twisted Fly Stitch  (red) and #81 Reversed Fly Stitch (turquoise).

The smaller of the circles has an outlined edge of two Buttonhole stitch lines, one on top of the other. One line is green, for the other I used a variegated thread in blue and pink.

Velveteen Cushion

I have started adding cupped round circles. 

You cut a circle of fabric, do a Running Stitch line along the edge, place a plastic cup inside and pull, then appliqué onto the velveteen.

This cushion will not be too comfortable to lean back against - good as it is meant as a decorative cushion only.

Circles are the theme on this project, too. I made two more circles with #8 Heavy Chain. Inside they are filled with #49 Colonial Knots and #56 Detached Twisted Chain Stitch.

Sunday Stitch School Reference Chart

New and old. The completed one has now got its titles in each box. 

Here is the new reference chart, awaiting the first stitch, #206 Rapid Stitch. There are 55 vacant spaces. 

Do you think I will be able to find 55 other stitches?

Yes, I think so! If I get stuck, I can always make new ones by adding beads to established stitches, ha, ha!

Here is the Sunday Stitch School Stitch collection so far, the #206 Rapid Stitch already found its place!

A New Elephant

I made another stuffed toy elephant. This time I used interfacing to stabilise the fabric, so it is a bit better than the previous one. I am still not satisfied with the trunk, though. Next time, if there ever is one, I will use another pattern.

At least it is a cuddly toy.

Velveteen Cushion

For the last week I have been using metallic thread in gold, silver and copper to make lines in Chain Stitch.

I made two more circles in #203 Pariser Stitch. One is filled with #83 Mennonite Tacks (on the right) and the other with #102 Knotted Sheaf Stitch (left).

Sunday Stitch School Reference Chart

With the last stitch #205 Glove Stitch I have filled in the fourth reference chart for Sunday Stitch School stitches.  

I will remove the butterfly fabric that I use as a support fabric when I stretch the chart in a hoop, then I will add the numbers and names for each stitch. Therefore I have typed up a list of them and printed it out on fabric. 

By next week Wednesday I hope to have cut out and stitched a label for each box on the chart.

I will also prepare a new chart for the next set of stitches.

Here I have completed the swirls of #16 Punchetto Valsesiano that I did not have time to finish last week. There is also a circle of #203 Pariser Stitch, and inside you will find #5 Emire Stitch.

I used metallic copper thread to Stem stitch some ornaments.

Ukranian Bookmark

The bookmark in Ukranian Cross Stitch I had begun last week, was completed and is now waiting for someone's birthday.

The back is covered with felt that I glued on. I left enough raw edge to made a simple fringe of the Aida fabric. To make sure it does not fray any further I brushed on a thin line of diluted bond to harden the 'roots' of the fringe.

It's a very beautiful design, but took 21 hours to complete. Almost every minute my thoughts were of the country where this design is from.

Coasters

For another birthday I made five coasters from squares of William Morris' lawn and Liberty's famous paisley lawn (used for the back, so not seen here).

All machine stitched, to save time.

WIPW - Appliqué, Italy and Ukraine

Here we are again, time for Work In Progress Wednesday. It includes a fresh bit of appliqué, an Italian stitch and a new project.

Velveteen Cushion

I have needle turned four pieces of appliqué in a grey cotton fabric with metallic swirly print on. 

Then I stitched the edges with #149 German Braided Knot Stitch and have made small French Knots in red at the centre of each swirl. That took some time, but I am pleased with the impact.

For the last set of swirls I used an Italian favourite, #16 Puncetto Valsesiano. As you can see I have not had time to complete the work yet.
