Mola
The original and traditional Molas made by the Cuna Indians of Panama are sometimes, but not always, adorned with some embroidery, usually the most basic stitches.
My friend Julie of My Quilt Diary has an original Mola panel and says the Chain Stitches on it are so tiny there are eight stitches on a cm.
I have also used some of the basic stitches - Running, Chain, Fly and Herringbone.
Instead of a single strand of cotton floss, though, I used perle #8 and made bolder stitches.

Maybe I should have tried the pearl cotton. As I am used to making tiny stitches, it was rather hard to get bigger ones. Not sure how well they show up.

As you know, with embroidery it is hard to know when to stop! I am glad I did when I did!
Perle is a favourite thread of mine. Sometimes a quilt, or waistcoat, has too large an area to fill with stranded cotton embroidery thread.
I agree, it is difficult to take small stitches with perle.
The really exquisite Molas are not embroidered, but I think a few stitches here and there can add a new dimension to almost any quilt.

The black fabric frayed badly so the slits are not very steady. I won't use the bag as a bag more than once (to show my friends). After that it will be fed a cushion and put to sleep on my Trinity Green quilt!

If the fabric had been more tightly woven and not frayed so much I would have been able to make more slits.

Those stitches are the icing on the cake, pretty!
They actually remind me of hard sugar crystals that are used to decorate Swedish buns and cakes.
