With the Mola and reports from the Tokyo International Great Quilt Festival 2018, out of the way it is time to launch a new project.
Crazy for Crazy
I treated myself to Sharon Boggon's excellent book
and will be using it as a course book while learning to improve my crazy quilting.
My progress so far is to have
set a shape, hexagon octagon!!!!, as you can see, cut out templates, foundation fabric and
selected scraps in light blue fabric, ribbon and lace for the first block.
I have pieced the block and
am about to start embellishing it.

I was just looking at that book in the fabric store yesterday!
Great book.
You're off to another fun stitch adventure too.
It's a good start. Lovely subtle colours...
That is a book I was thinking of buying. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.
Maybe we should have picked that as our challenge. I don't have that book but I do have a few older ones that might work.
I bought the book already last year, and have read in it and leafed through it almost every day, but I promised myself not to get started until other WIPs were completed.
Now I am so happy to do something I have been wanting to do for a long time.
BTW, the book is GREAT - one of the best I have ever seen,
Every block will be monochrome with stitching in a contrasting colour. I started with light blue and the next will be another colour.
I can highly recommend the book; it is one of the very best and most instructive books in the trade.
If you feel tempted we can do it for NEXT year! The style in the book is 'anything over the top' and I hope to take a good bite into my stash of decorations.
Looks like you have made a great start!
I bought Sharon's book last year also and enjoyed reading through it cover to cover and back again. I haven't used it yet for a project and it could be a while before I do.
I would recommend it to both Beginners and Pros for its easy to follow as well as great ideas to stimulate ourselves.
I have followed tips in the book and it was not difficult to get this far.
That exactly how I read the book, cover to cover. Now I will be able to go from chapter to chapter as I build on the blocks. There is SO much information and good guidance.
Looking forward to your progress on this interesting crazy quilting project. I haven't seen Sharon's book so far, but sure it will be great one. Thanks for sharing your experience.
How fun! I have Sharon's book and love to just leaf through the photos of her gorgeous work. The information is wonderful. Your block is lovely and I cannot wait to watch your progress on this crazy quilting adventure!
Wonderful job so far on your quilt.
Hugs Diane
If you ever need a book about Crazy Quilting this is a great read.
Actually I feel the same thing, it is a coffee table book, as well as a course book and full of solutions to your problems. The best of best!
Thank you. I am truly enjoying working on this project.
I am looking forwards to seeing your crazy quilting, I find it fun to do and let your creativity run wild!
Yes, I love it. It is So much more pleasurable than the Mola!
