Many of my daily chores keep me away from the computer so blogging has been very limited. Luckily I have been able to find pockets of time for needlework and have added the following stitches to my
Pile 'em On
Left column from the top: Right column from the top:
Woven Cross Stitch Broad Cross Stitch
Tweed Stitch Gate Stitch
Goblin Stitch Eastern Stitch
I pulled these Eastern stitches too much, but they were fun to make. Eastern Stitch was included in the TAST (Take A Stitch Tuesday) project and this is what I wrote about it two years ago.
In the middle are the stitches in white that my mother made many years ago. When I found this UFO of hers, I tried to complete it, but my tension is totally different from hers. Instead I started working my Canvas stitch sampler around her work.
I have already started on some new Canvas stitches so next week's WIPW report will contain a number of new ones.
I have also started work on the Hanging Hina Dolls for this year. Watch this space as they are coming up soon!

I love the pulled stitches of your mothers UFO. And how nice of you to complete it in your way!
Nice progress! How special that your mother worked on this first.
I've been very busy lately and I understand the "pockets of time" concept. Sometimes I feel like the pockets are only as big as a ten yen coin, but I hope to get back to a regular routine in the near future.
I look forward to seeing the Hanging Hina Dolls this year.
Your stitches are a great match with your mother's stitches. I like watching your progress.
The sampler looks great. How good to have Mother/Daughter work on one piece of fabric. I had thought the white to be your work. It is impressive.
I checked out the Eastern stitch tute, which I'd forgotten.
I'm soon to start a sampler for pulled work. Fingers crossed for some success.
Great progress .
Beautiful stitches, I enjoy seeing your progress. How wonderful to have some of your mother's work. The hanging Hina dolls are amazing, I'll stay tuned for more.
how lovely that you are adding to what Mum had done years ago, looking so good
I remember trying to match knit or crochet stitches to finish mother's work and that was the trickiest part of the task.
Lovely work. I actually did some embroidery today too for the first for ages, mine was just running stitch unlike your more intricate work.
Any action where a needle and thread goes through fabric or paper is a lovely thing! I've just made this years Hina doll ornaments and it was fun to stitch through some stiff and tough kimono silk again.
Oh, I know exactly what you mean! I have never been able to take over someone else's knitting or crochet project, and I have plenty of bed linen lace UFOs...
Thank you, Margaret.
I have plenty of Mum's needlework items, and luckily most of them are completed things. They are a joy to use.
Thank you, Shami.
Pulled work is such a good 'let off steam' technique. You can pull and yank as much as you like, anyway if you want a rough look. I included a lot of pulled stitches in the flames of Pile 'em On. Maybe I'd better show a picture of the entire piece next time to show the progress.
Thank you for those words. I am happy if they look good together as I know I would not have been able to complete her half finished stitches.
I think my pockets can only house a ONE yen coin! Yesterday I worked non-stop until I stooped into bed, it is hard to be the substitute for three other people!
I just hope she does not mind me adding a totally different look to her table runner (I think that is what it was supposed to be).
I love this more every time you share it. Beautiful additions!
