Sunday Stitch School - Lesson 98: Sprat's Head

Welcome to Sunday Stitch School's Evening Class. It's 9pm here.

Tonight we are learning a stitch used in tailoring and dressmaking to reinforce seams - the Sprat's Head Stitch.

I found this triangular stitch in Mary Thomas's Dictionary of Embroidery Stitches.
Updated: Mattia tells me the French name is: point d'abeille.

First you need to draw a triangle on your fabric,
then stretch the fabric taught in a frame or hoop.

Take the needle out from the bottom left corner, 

take a bite of the fabric at the tip of the top.

This is a kind of Herringbone Stitch, narrow at the top, wide at the bottom.

Insert the needle in the bottom right corner and
come out next to the first stitch on the left.

Repeat and work your way down the triangle.

It's Wednesday again, and that means it's time to write up a Work In Progress Wednesday report.

Crazy for Crazy
Here I made use of two recent Sunday Stitch School stitches, and I also attached the Dorset Button I completed last week.

On my Brazilian Embroidery Study I tried out the Loose Cast On Stitch for these flowers:

Instead of using only the threaded needle for the cast on loops, you place two more needles parallel to the threaded needle, thus making a wide and loose stitch. A bit tricky, but I like the result.

Last week I made two paisley, or tear drop, shapes and this week I filled them with Lattice Work. I will fill in the void with either beads or French Knots.

Sunday Stitch School - Lesson 97: Satin Threaded Chain Stitch

Today I will show you a neat and easy stitch from Anchor's book on Crewel Embroidery, introduced to me by  CrazyQstitcher. She is such a source of stitches and ideas. Thank you, Maureen.

Work Satin Threaded Chain Stitch like this:

Make a line of Chain Stitch.

Anchor the last stitch.

Turn the work and
come out below the last Chain Stitch.

Thread the link, not catching any of the  fabric.

Go in a bit to the left, so you have two 'legs'.

Continue 'pinning legs to the caterpillar', long or short, as you please.
