Sunday Stitch School - Lesson 163: Canvas Stem Stitch

I promised a new canvas stitch and here is Canvas Stem Stitch, although it looks more like a Canvas Fly Stitch, wouldn't you say? I followed the instructions from The Embroidery Stitch Bible.

Work it like this:

Work Back Stitch  between the slanted stitches.
For contrast change the colour,
or keep the same thread.

Continue to fill the canvas.

Alter the colours, if you like.

Homework:
There are four samplers to work on!

Looks like a great filler stitch.

It is a good filler stitch, although as you say, it doesn't look much like stem stitch to an embroiderer accustomed to surface embroidery!

Another beautiful sample and you do have a great selection of sample stitches in different weights of thread and various colors and ground fabrics. That's a treasure!

Another neat stitch. Looks like fly stitches standing in a row.
