Sunday Stitch School - Lesson 205: Glove Stitch

I should have added this stitch LONG ago, but either I forgot, or I thought it too similar to #38 Bosnian Stitch.

If you look at a pair of leather gloves you are likely to see how the Glove Stitch has been used to join two pieces of leather together, creating a rim.

However you can just as well use Glove Stitch for embroidery. It is easy. Here is how:

Isn't that neat? Instant impact with very little effort.

Now compare #205 Glove Stitch with #38 Bosnian Stitch, which from the front looks exactly the same, but is worked in a different way:

To start with you work in the opposite direction.

Then you make the Straight stitches, upright

and return by crossing over to the second Straight Stitch.

Here you can see that the two stitches look the same. Glove Stitch in blue, and Bosnian Stitch in red.

It's on the back of the embroidery that you see the difference.

Homework:
Play around with these samplers.

Friday Revision Homework - Stitches 36 - 40

This Friday I am handing in a revision homework for the last five Sunday Stitch School's stitches.

Sunbonnet Sue was once a little girl who went to the woods picking mushrooms to cook soup for her grandmother who was ill in bed.

Sue remembered the bedtime fairy tales her mother had read her and knew better than to put on her red riding hood.
Instead she put on a blue bonnet, and the Big Bad Woolf was cheated out of his 'dinner'.
Clever Sue!

Sunday Stitch School - Revision: Stitches 36 - 40

Welcome to Sunday Stitch School. The rain is pelting down here, so it is the perfect opportunity to stay indoors and study stitches!

Once again it is time for another revision lesson to sum up the last five stitches.

Click on the headline to see instructions and homework.

I have found another name for this stitch: New England Laid Stitch.
It is great for filling, makes a nice 'Satin Stitch' look and does not need a Split Stitch outline.

37 Hungarian Stitch
This stitch makes such a lovely pattern on canvas.

Easy and quick.

Oh, how easy it is to make swelling flower buds, seeds and pebbles!

This is an unusual stitch, great for outlines and other linear work.

Revision Homework:
Stitch this Sunbonnet Sue sampler, 'cheat' with crayons and molding mat.

Friday Homework for Lesson 38: Bosnian Stitch

Student: This was easy and fast. Here's my homework for the Bosnian Stitch.

Teacher: Accepted, but not very impressive. No creative design this time, eh?
Student: No, it was too easy and I was too busy with other things.
Teacher: You and your excuses!
Student: I am fed up with Geography!
Teacher: I am sure you could benefit from more lessons on this subject.
Student: PLEASE, something else, please.
Teacher: OK, let's do some Biology on Sunday.
Student: THANK YOU, Miss.

Sunday Stitch School - Lesson 38: Bosnian Stitch

It's time for another geographical stitch at Sunday Stitch School.
We have been to Rumania and Hungary and will remain in Europe a bit longer.
So let's move south to Balkan and try our hands at the Bosnian Stitch.

French name: Point de Bosnie.

It has a dramatic look, yet is very easy to work.

Start from the right and made vertical straight stitches

The slanted stitches are worked on the return journey.

Then do a second row of stitches right below the first row, and so on...

(When this stitch is worked from left to right and the slanted stitches go the other way, the name changes to either Fence Stitch or Barrier Stitch, and is a French stitch rather than Bosnian.)

Your Homework
will be to fill in the next square on the 'fake' canvas.
