That is what I learned from my homework this time!
While wrapping the eight Straight stitches one should let the thread travel on the front instead of anchoring it. The result will be a proper cross.
Having said that, I personally think the wrong way is prettier, and the wraps sit much better when they are anchored at the beginning and end of each Straight Stitch.
Therefor I have let myself off the hook and here show two versions of Point â la Minute.

This stitch has a bitter after taste, I don't think I like it very much. Sigh!

I agree, the 'wrong' way is prettier and would form a much more interesting pattern across a background.
It's not my favourite stitch either but it would be useful in some situations.
I refer back to the Anundsjo and how Brita-Kajsa accidentally invented her version of a stitch.
I definitely prefer your version but will test out the other too. Seems Swedish ladies have an artistic streak. :-)
I think they both have their place! And that shows how just a little addition or omission can give a quite a different look.

You get stitches like this every so often, they have a mind of their own. But it looks as though you have tamed it.
