Smyrna Stitch is basically made up of a Cross Stitch staggered with an Upright Cross Stitch. Easy to do, yet stylish. Furthermore, it is a nice filling stitch and is popular in Canvas Work.
It also goes under the names of Leviathan Stitch, Double Cross Stitch (although there is another Canvas stitch with this name) and Railway Stitch.
Updated: In French, according to Mattia, it is also called Smyrna Point.
Work it like this:
Make a Cross Stitch over an odd number of holes, here I used five.
Come out in the middle hole on the left side.
and up to the middle of the top line.
Then down in the bottom centre.
Easy and compact.

Great! I like this stitch. I'll look forward to seeing your homework.
Ce point porte le même nom en français :
point de smyrne
et point de rya la semaine dernière
Merci et bon dimanche

It makes a good, textural boss in canvaswork, too...
Nice stitch, Queenie!
All your samplers are looking really pretty with lovely colour choices!

A very useful stitch but looks at all those names!
That's a beautiful, useful stitch, yes, with a lot of names too.
By the way Queenie, have you switched your blog to HTTPS yet? You can see it in the URL.
It's more secure and there is info and tutorials on how to do it online.
You can also just figure it out by getting into your blog settings. Easy.
Just thought you might want to know.
