Friday Homework for Lesson 237: Roll Straight Stitch

It was considerably easier to make this stitch as individual stitches than in a line, (#145 Roll Chain Stitch).

The tension is important though, especially for the start of the stitch. You need to keep the needle really flush with the fabric when you start winding the thread around the needle.

Wormy shrimps!

Look at those tails some of the stitches have, they are there because I did not keep the thread tight enough at the start of stitching. Lesson learned!

Mottled Wool Scribble Cloth

Scattering an area with Roll Straight Stitch of various tones is an alternative to using Seed Stitch for filling. Richer, livelier and with more 'movement'. Even headless shrimps are alive!

I guess Sunbonnet Sue is going to have to visit a fish market to use your shrimp roll chain stitches!
