Sunday Stitch School - Lesson 217: Simplified Rice Stitch

I think it is time for a canvas stitch. Do you remember Rice Stitch? It is one of the TAST stitches that I learned long ago.

Today we have a version of the Rice Stitch, and it is called Simplified Rice Stitch. Instead of four small straight stitches over the cross, there are only two.

You can see it at Arts & Design. Scroll down to S and look for Simplified Rice Stitch.

Work it like this:

Or change the size, placement or colours.

The main point is to place the diagonal Straight Stitch over the upper crossed stitch, to anchor it down. Use either of these holes.

Homework: Add to these samplers, as well as the Canvas Sampler.

I like the rice stitch, but haven’t used this simplified rice stitch before. Every stitch has variations.

A good variation, changing the shape and texture.

Simplified Rice Stitch adds texture and looks like a good filler stitch. Many possible options.

That's a nice rice stitch variation. I rememeber having fun with it when in was a TAST stitch.
