Friday Homework for Lesson 216: New England Stitch

This is such a pretty stitch! It is easy, as well. The demerit is that it is a thread eater. There is more thread on the back than on the front!

Aida Sampler

On Aida, with its fixed grid, it is difficult to place the two perpendicular stitches across the longer Straight Stitch. Instead I made just one smaller stitch on the bias to hold down the long stitch.

Sunday Stitch School Reference Chart
I used only the light blue colour thread for this stitch, unlike all the other stitch samplers, which are done in both blue and brown.
Even scaled down, this is a stitch that takes up space.
It is a lovely stitch for a border.

Mottled Wool Scribble Cloth
I needed to mark the lines with tailoring chalk, but once that was done, the stitching was plain sailing.

I would definitely need a line mark of where to stitch

This is pretty, especially with the variegated thread.

Yes, this makes a charming border stitch!

New England Stitch is a beauty, I like it on the wool cloth.
