18th Tokyo International Great Quilt Festival 2019 - 6 Homes

The Partnership Quilt project is an annual part of the quilt show. The public is invited to send in a small block on a set theme. This time it was House.
The organizers then asked a famous quilt artist to helm the arrangement of these blocks into quilts. Over 10.000 blocks were received and made into 66 quilts of 150+ blocks each. You can understand  that this is a major task. Volunteers then stitch the blocks together and quilt them.

Here are a few examples:

Tanya's pastel house in a forest of pink trees.

Julie's cardinal had flocked together with other birds in houses.

 My house was a mushroom with the Swedish flag on the washing line.

 Pamela let a welcoming light on over the door.

One of her student's houses was on the beach with waves coming in on the tide,

while another student grows purple flowers by her charming farmhouse of kimono fabric,

and a third student keeps her pigs safely indoors.

There were many other 'houses' with animals

 the cat in its basket

 a fluffy panda in a bamboo hut

 the terry towel dog has a house with a stove that sends out heart shaped smoke


the God of Thunder houses in a cloud, of course.

Not a single person was to be seen in Takako Makino's (牧野孝子) village, but lots of animals and a snake.

Then a few quilters invited us indoors.

And finally one of my favorite quilts from the show, not only because of the Swedish wooden Dala Horse on the shelf, but because of the interesting leaves on the plant and the clock.
