Sunday Stitch School - Lesson 282: Mosaic Filling Stitch

Today I have a real treat, Mosaic Filling Stitch, which I found at Kimberly Ouimet's blogspot.

It is easy to do and looks stunning.

Here is my photo tutorial:

In this version, I have used three colours to clarify the three steps, 1) Straight Stitch, 2) Back Stitch and 3) Cross Stitch.

Homework:
Add to these three samplers

Friday Homework for Lesson 281: Rhodes Stitch

Every type of Rhodes Stitch that I have tried has been enjoyable and that goes for the basic Rhodes Stitch, too, of course. I look forward to working the remaining variations at a later stage.

Using a variegated thread makes for an interesting look, especially as seen on the Canvas Sampler, below.

WIPW - Another Three Stitches Added

Once again, the only Work In Progress Wednesday work I have been able to do was to

add another three stitches to the

Sunday Stitch School Stitch Sampler

They are: #193 Double Drizzle Stitch (blue and purple), #268 Donut Drizzle Stitch (pink) and #237 Roll Straight Stitch (red)

Sunday Stitch School - Lesson 281: Rhodes Stitch

We have previously worked some of the Rhodes Stitch variations, e.g. #172 Half Rhodes, #231 Rhodes Heart Stitch, and believe me there are more to come.

Today, though,  we are doing the basic Rhodes Stitch. According to A-Z of Embroidery Stitches 2,  the Rhodes Stitch was invented by British needlework designer, teacher and author Mary Rhodes.  It was first published in her book Dictionary of Canvas Work Stitches in 1980.

At Royal School of Needlework, good instructions can be found in the form of diagrams, photos and video tutorials.

Here is my photo tutorial.

I worked over a square of 6 holes.

The completed Rhodes Square. 6 holes on the left and 5 holes on the right.

Homework:
Add to the three usual samplers, and also the Canvas Sampler.

Friday Revision Homework - Stitches 276 - 280

Sorry for handing in my homework a week late. Here is Sunbonnet Sue showing off five stitches while she is daydreaming (night dreaming?) at the open window, gazing at the full moon and starry sky.

Did Sue see a shooting star, I wonder...

WIPW - Three Stitches Added

Work In Progress Wednesday.

I managed to find time to do some work on the

Sunday Stitch School Stitch Sampler

#249 Fly Stitch Rose (in ribbon), #267 Plaited Stitch (in wool) and #274 L Stitch (in green Perle).

Friday Revision Homework

The Sunbonnet Sue stitch sampler I am making for stitches 276 - 280, won't be completed until next week. As you can see, I've started the work but, sorry to say, I just have too many other things to deal with at the moment...

WIPW - A Bookmark

Work In Progress Wednesday: I had to make another birthday present and also did some work on the

Sunday Stitch School Stitch Sampler

where I added #235 Barred Herringbone Stitch (in red and green) and #273 Chained Wheatear Stitch (blue).

This is the sampler at this stage. To catch up on all the stitches worked so far, there are twenty stitches left to do, and then there are the new stitches that we haven't learned yet...

A Bookmark

was made and sent as a birthday present.

Sunday Stitch School - Revision Stitches 276 - 280

After a bit of a break, it is time to review the last five stitches. Click the names of the stitches to get to the instructions.

276 Alternating Wheatear Stitch

This is an attractive version of the standard Wheatear Stitch.

277 Open Back Stitch

Here is another of the basic embroidery stitches that has been slightly altered.

278 Reversed Palestrina Stitch

If you are left-handed, then this stitch must be easier than the traditional Palestrina Stitch.

279 Spinal Double Stitch

Tricky and complex and if you just work the stitch halfway through, you get another attractive stitch. Why not try it out?

280 Flower Loop Stitch

I would say that this stitch is a set of Buttonhole Bars made into arches and shaped into flower petals...

Homework:

Sunbonnet Sue is daydreaming somewhere...

I bet this hint, the back of the work, won't give you any obvious answer.

WIPW - The Tricky One

I added only one set of stitches for the Work In Progress Wednesday report. On the

Sunday Stitch School Stitch Sampler

I worked a curved line of #89 Chequered Chain Band - one of the most complicated stitches in my collection. However, as it is such a pretty stitch it is worth struggling to complete it.

It's similar to Magic Chain but is stitched over a set of straight stitches. Here you can play with three different colours.
