Friday Homework for Lesson 196: Square Knot Drizzle Stitch

I don't know why, but the stitches I added to the three samplers are all uneven and look messy.

Well, while I ponder why, here they are:

Aida Sampler

Looking at them again, I think the problem is that I did not tighten the macrame knot over the needle hard enough - there is too much slack in the thread... I guess. What do you think?

Do I have an explanation? I WAS tired, it WAS late when I did them.... A feeble excuse for a failure...

CrazyQstitcher perfected her stitches! Have a look.

I think that is a difficult stitch to control. They look like caterpillars trying to escape.

It might also be that the thread doesn't compress enough to make a neat knot. You've heard me going on about stitches and threads and the relationships between them on many occasions!

I don't think they are a 'failure'. As Rachel said, 'the thread doesn't compress enough to make a neat knot'..... So for what you had to work with, the thread type, they are exactly what they should be. Your technique was right on too.
Kind of like children, sometimes they turn out a little 'rough' and you wonder how they're going to make it in life. But as time passes you see them unfold and like a miracle their life works out for something good.

I think they are probably neater than any I did.

This is a good stitch for a 3D garden.

Such interesting stitches! I think your reasons for them not being perfect are totally valid. I rarely do my best work when I am tired. They still look really interesting though!

I love this stitch. A few years ago I used it to make a fringe for a mini doll I made and I just looked back on my blog and I think they look similar to yours and they were what I wanted at the time.
So the thing is, your stitches look good to me but as the other ladies said above it probably does depend on the thread you are using.
Oops .... am I waffling again? 😂 Probably no help at all, but I think your stitches are perfect.
