WIPW - SSE embroidery

Since I completed the 'Bellaflora' quilt I have not worked on any of my UFOs for the Work In Progress Wednesday. Instead I completed the first part of the Sumptuous Surface Embroidery course I am now doing with Sharon Boggon.

It is a GREAT course which I warmly recommend to anyone who wants to 'keep on loading stitches' to  a flat surface. Anything goes, and I tell you you can use up all those odd bits of thread, yarn, beads, buttons that might be cluttering your workroom.

First we learned a lot about design and I mean it I learned a lot!
In the first leg of the course we are working in monotone, and I had a lot of light blue and grey thread left from making TASTy bird; selecting the shade was easy!

The rectangle measures 17 cm x 12 cm.

Looking at it I can see I need to improve my linear stitching; should I name this piece Wonky Hearts? I need to take a lesson in Backstitch from the Queen of Backstitch, Jacquie Harvey!

Wonky hearts? No what about Rich hearts - I am never good at naming stuff but they dont look wonky to me.

If those hearts are wonky, I'm in big trouble!
Your block in my quilt is looming on the horizon even as I type this!

Perfect hearts I would say. Well done.

I absolutely love it! It's so opulent and reminds me of a highly decorative Elizabethan corset–perhaps you could rename it Tudor hearts?

Thank you for your kind words but I defenitely need to learn to make more even curves on counted cloth.

With your expertise you'll never be in trouble with your needle and thread.

Not perfect at all! Greatly enjoyed making them, however!

Sharon's course is more value for money than I had ever thought. I have about 200 pages jam packed with information and advice, beautiful pictures and stimulating ideas + the full support of her emails. Do join a course when you have the time; there is no need to rush to complete it as you will have all the text to study at a later stage.

I had this piece of light blue linen, and all the thread in the same shade so it was an easy choice. Now we are about to learn the secrets of colour!

Yes, you are right. I have seen some heavily decorated Tudor stomachers. As for a name, it is still brewing and stewing in my head.

Thank you for those adjectives! Ace of Hearts, eh... I'll have a think...

Thank you Latha,
It was a learning curve, and took longer than I first thought, but I enjoyed every second of it so will continue the course happily. The next step is colour. Wow!

This is a beautiful piece of embroidery. I don't think you should be allowed to call it 'wonky'.

I did this class too and I also learned a lot.
By accident I used the same hearts in my design (only two).
The blue and grey are such a nice combination.

Beautiful! I love this! Wonderful harmony.

Love these linked hearts! I'm sure there are a lot of hours in this piece. Still remember how I enjoyed this class, I've learned so much! For me backstitch is difficult in curves too, so I use other stitches instead. On my sumptuous piece I used Portuguese stem stitch, which gives a nice curve.

That is one lovely piece. Stop being so critical , you're wrong, this is a great piece .
I also enjoyed these classes but you are going to need a large file to fit all the notes in.

We can always see the weaknesses in our own work, heaven only knows I can, but your work always looks perfect to me. The richness of all that embroidery is such a contrast to the colour palette and the simplicity of the hearts, a bit like life really.

I would call them joyful hearts - A wonderful embroidery - I am so proud that I can see your expert stitching with all the lovely comments and answers from your side.

Why are so so critical! For me this is a perfect work, an eyecandy and a true pleasure to look at!
