Friday Homework for Lesson 7: Gate Stitch

Last weekend's Sunday Stitch School introduced the Gate Stitch. It turned out to be fun, quick and easy to make.

Here is my homework:
First I filled this block with Gate Stitches at different levels and without gaps. I think it looks quite nice.

Then I played around and made a small landscape stitch sketch where there is a Gate in the fence. Sorry it is not so easy to see, but it's there.

WIPW - Trinity Green Snakes Along

There are only a few hours left of Wednesday so I'd better hurry up and write my Work In Progress Wednesday report.

Trinity Green
Each paper strip contains 27 triangles. I joined eight strips together until I got a few 'snakes'. 27x8paper strips=216 triangles x 5snakes =1080 triangels have been stitched together.
At this slow pace it will take me about 6 weeks to have all the snakes together. Then I have to join them to narrow strips of green 'snakes' ..... and then we have all the paper to remove.... This project will stay with me for some time yet!

Fabric in Focus
For Christmas I was given two pieces of plain green fabric which I will have to cut into triangles and add to the collection.

Sunday Stitch School - Lesson 7: Gate Stitch

Happy New Year, and welcome to a new year of stitch explorations and stitch adventures.

Stitch no 7 is called Gate Stitch and is one of the many Canvas Stitches I have found in Mary Thomas's Dictionary of Embroidery Stitches.
I have not found a Swedish name, in French it is called Point de Porte. (Thank you Mattia).
Actually it is not an entirely new stitch to me; I worked a few of these gates on my piece Pile 'em On, last year.

In spite of looking advanced it is an easy stitch made up of straight lines, and it does certainly look like a gate!

First make four vertical stitches, then a cross and finally a horisontal stitch. On the next 'gate', the horisontal stitch is one level lower. The gates can also be placed without a gap and you then have a good filling stitch. In Mary Thomas's book the stitches are also placed at different levels making a nice pattern.

Here they are in a row with gaps on Aida.

Homework:
Fill one of these boxes with Gate Stitches (no gaps and at different levels).

WIPW - Trinity Green Update

HAPPY NEW YEAR
Let's hope 2017 will be a productive and enjoyable year, with much progress to report!

Trinity Green
It is high time for a Work In Progress Wednesday report on Trinity Green.

Since my last TG report at the end of November I have made only 108 new triangles. With those the total is now 7.020 so I have actually reached my target.
I then placed all paper strips on the sheet I will be using as a background.

Sewn together with green strips of fabric I hope to have enough, but there are still a number of cut triangles so I can add more if needed.
I can also make a nice cushion to go with the quilt - once it is completed!

Fabric in focus
Fabric with Christmas theme usually has a lot of red, but I found this mistletoe fabric that will have to represent the past season.
