Sunday Stitch School - Lesson 302: Triangular Bullion Stitch

It was in Sadako Totsuka's book 'Basic Stitches' that I found this stitch, perfect for flower petals.

Work it like this:

Come out of the fabric,

Insert the needle just next to where

the first came out. Take the needle

out at the height of the petal.

Wrap as many loops as you want the

bullion petal to be wide.

Tighten the loops around the needle.

Hold the bullion tight with your thumb.

Pull the needle through.

While still holding the bullion, shape a

triangular loop.

Anchor the stitch to keep the bullion

in place.

If it feels wobbly, add another anchor

stitch.

Make a few more for a real flower.

Just imagine what you can put inside the petal's void! A bead, a French Knot, a Lazy Daisy, a Seed Stitch, a Double Seed Stitch, a Fly Stitch... just about any small individual stitch would add variation.

Enjoy!

Homework is as usual to sprinkle stitches onto these samplers:

Friday Homework for Lesson 301: Wreath Stitch

This is a lovely stitch that works up quickly. Use a grid for the best result and keep the size small. The larger the wreath, the more open the work. Or use a thick thread, tapestry wool or ribbon to fill in the circle.

It was fun to use the variegated thread.

WIPW - Filling Voids

I haven't had anything to report for a long time but here at last is some progress on Work In Progress Wednesday.

Sunday Stitch School Stitch Sampler

To fill in some of the blank areas on the sampler I put in some extra stitches of previously added ones.

#260 Laced Mountmellick (silver and red, on the left).  #265 Double Whipped Running Stitch (green, orange and white) and #298 Hatamusubi (the long line at the bottom, from the left, purple wool, white perle, green wool, orange metallic, beige polyester and finally green polyester (not in the picture)). The thread ends have all been joined on the back using the Hatamusubi knot, or Weavers' Knot or Sheet Bend).

In another void, I added #168 Croatian Stitch (red and blue metallic).

Hexablooms

There are now five more flowers, which brings the total to 100.

Sunday Stitch School - Lesson 301: Wreath Stitch

Is it time to get some decorations for Christmas underway? Today I will let Sharon of Badasscrossstitcher teach us how to make a little wreath. Check out her instructions here.

Or follow my photo tutorial.

This is the graph with stitch order.

Work your way around the circle.

Friday Revision Homework - Stitches 296 - 300

After a long sickness leave, I am now back on track with Sunday Stitch School. Here is the revision homework for stitches 296 - 300.

Let me start by showing this picture of Sunbonnet Sue that I made for stitches 26 - 30,  in 2017, August 4

It inspired me to make a similar scene.

Sue has changed into a skimpier bikini but is still lapping up the last of the summer's sunshine while sipping on another cool drink.

Here goes:

Tokyo has been extremely hot this summer, and most people say they are exhausted. Finally, we seem to be in sight of some cooler weather. I hope I will regain my energy and have a productive autumn.

WIPW - Slowly Starting Up Again

My last blog post was more than two weeks ago.

I then wrote about taking a break from stitching and blogging to let my eye heal from a broken blood vessel  (subconjunctival haemorrhage). It looked much worse than it was but took longer than I expected to heal completely. I am happy to report that  I am now well enough to slowly start up my projects again.

For this week's Work In Progress Wednesday,  I can only report on

Hexablooms

where I have five new flowers. The total count now stands at 95.

Time Off - Eye Strain

Due to eye strain, I need to take a week off stitching and will avoid using the computer, too. It's nothing serious so let's hope I get the all-clear from the doctor soon.

Sunday Stitch School - Revision: Stitches 296 - 300

We have now reached the 300 stitch mark and it is time to revise the last five stitches before we go on to further stitch adventures.

Click on the title to go to the instructions.

296 Rhodes Rectangle Stitch

It's yet another version in the Rhodes Stitch collection.

297 Raised Cup Stitch with Twisted Chain

Round and dome-shaped, it is a good stitch when you want something textured.

298 Hatamusubi

This is a Japanese knot used in Sashiko for joining two threads invisibly on the reverse side of the work. I think it can be used on the front, showing off the knot.

299 Backstitched Trellis Stitch

Do you want to use up a lot of thread? Here is the perfect stitch for you. All that backstitching will soon gobble up your thread!

300 Ring Picot Stitch

The Ring Picot is a nice edging stitch.

Homework:

It is Show Time for Sunbonnet Sue. What is she engaged in at this time I wonder?

Ah, those sharp lines look like floor tiles in a bathroom!
Ha, they are NOT! Actually, the lines will be slightly softer.
