This is a lovely stitch that works up quickly. Use a grid for the best result and keep the size small. The larger the wreath, the more open the work. Or use a thick thread, tapestry wool or ribbon to fill in the circle.

Nice samples! The green does look very Christmas-y.
Good variation showing different effects of various thread weights/colors and different fabrics very useful to see that.
The variegated one on the scribble cloth is my favourite!
