Work In Progress Wednesday - 'Thieving'?

I have to confess to some 'thieving'.

On my crazy quilt block there is not much space left, but one piece of pink sateen had space for some kind of decorations.

I was reading this post on Marjolein's blog Threads and Patches. She used water colour pencils to dye a piece of lace. What a neat idea I thought and did the same. It was easy peasy and I didn't need much to dye this piece of lace:

Then I added a few golden beads for some shine.

Now is this stealing someone else's idea? I have written to Marjolein and she says she does not mind. On her blog you will find lots of tutorials so I was convinced she would be happy to share the water colour pencil trick as well. I warmly recommend a visit to her blog.

Another place you should visit is of course Sharon's Work In Progress Wednseday where you can see what progress she and others have made.

I hope to have time to continue embellishing this pink piece of sateen before next week.

that is great idea Marjolein came up with isn`t it, your lace has come out a beautiful colour, have the lace and pencils so must motivate and do some too.

Great to hear your sharing idea's with friends that's how we learn.
looking good.

I have always admired people who dye their own thread and lace but never done it myself. What stopped me was the amount of dye I thought one would need for just a short piece of lace. Marjolein's method is perfect for these smaller items.

I don't think I have learned or got as much inspiration in a year as I have in 2012. All thanks to fellow bloggers.

You are so right; this is the best way to learn!

The colour looks so good on the lace--quite saturated. I never thought of using my watercolour pencils or crayons for this, although I have used my watercolour paints, as well as acrylics. Sharing knowledge and experiments is what keeps creativity growing and spreading! Thanks to you and Marjolein.

Oh, this is really nice "painters work"!
Thanks for the publicity ;-)

For me, too, this mentod of Marjolein's was a revelation. Previously I have used fabric crayons and although they are good the paint stays on the surface. With watercolour pencils you get the dye to penetrate the fibers but without having to use a lot. PERFECT for small projects.
