Sunday Stitch School - Lesson 381: Double Feather Stitch

Here we are again, at the first lesson of the new group of five stitches.

Feather Stitch is one of the first stitches taught by TAST (Take A Stitch Tuesday, a stitch challenge at Pingtangle). On my TAST chart, it has number 3. It was back in 2012.

Today we are looking at an extension - the Double Feather Stitch.

Good instructions can be found in many stitch dictionaries, including Mary Thomas's Dictionary of Embroidery Stitches.

This is my photo tutorial:

First, work your way left downward.

Once you have three stitches, change the direction

to right downward.

After three stitches, go left again.

You can, of course, make the 'cups' wider,

like in the turquoise example.

This is a favorite stitch of mine. It’s useful for both counted fabric and crazy quilt seams.
