Also I noticed that a thread with a good twist, like Perle, gives much better result than Coton a Broder. See for yourself in the samples below:

These sit nicely, and look good in variegated thread (perle).

That stitch makes a nice border.

There is something of a row of pinwheels over them, don't you think?
Pearl Cottons do have a lovely sheen and stitch definition which brings out the best in stitches like this!
Perle will always be one of my favorite threads.
