Sunday Stitch School: Lesson 46 - Corded Coral Stitch

Although we are approaching Winter vacations, Christmas and New Year, here at Sunday Stitch School we will continue studying and add a few more stitches before the end of the year.

Stitch #46 is the corded version of a TAST stitch,   Coral Stitch
and it is, of course, called: Corded Coral Stitch. 'Korallstygn med läggsöm' ought to be an appropriate  name in Swedish.

Work it like this:
Place a thread, or in this case a braid, on the fabric. Keep the tension tight.
Let the working thread come up, on or at least near, the base thread.

Take a bite of the fabric, place the working thread on top and then under the needle.

Pull through and you have your first little knot.
Go on in the same way.

This is what it looks like when the corded thread is the same type as the working thread.

Homework:
Work the Aida sampler.
Try out the stitch with various threads.

I look forward to seeing your samples with various threads. I haven't tried the corded version of this stitch before. Very interesting!

That stitch has possibilities. Using thicker thread and stacked it would make a unique texture.

Here is a chance to use really knobbly, thick, fluffy or otherwise difficult-to-stitch-through-fabric threads, by placing them on the surface and anchoring them with the Coral Stitch.

Hello and welcome,
The Sunday and Friday blog posts are all about learning and using new embroidery stitches.
On Wednesdays I report on work in progress.
As for other days there will be a mix of needlework or quilting.

Yes, this is perfect for adding structure, texture and pizzazz to the simple Coral Stitch.

I've not seen this version before. I like the idea of the braid background and I've enjoyed going back to your old Coral stitch examples too.

For my Friday Homework I play with all sorts of yarn and threads.
For the Revision Sunbonnet Sue homework I have a nice lineal stitch in the Corded Coral Stitch!

I hadn't thought of using coral stitch like that. What a lovely idea!

It's a good way to anchor a fancy cord, isn't it?

I never would have thought of working coral stitch like this. Gives interesting possibilities.

What a wonderful way to anchor a fancy cord. Beautiful!

When two threads are involved you always get double possibilities.

The knots will keep the couched thread quite fixed.

could it be a couching stitch?
In this case I would say : point de corail en couchure
I did not find anything in French

Nice stitch

Well, yes it is a form of couching, isn't it? The coral knots add a bit of texture.
