Friday Homework for Lesson 46: Corded Coral Stitch

Coral Stitch is easy, and so is this corded version.

With the Corded Coral Stitch you can really play around with unusual or difficult threads, braids or yarn as the base thread.
On a narrow braid or thin thread the Coral couching is not so obvious, but on a wide ribbon, like the yellow one in the picture, there is a funny 'trussed-up-ham' look.

On my Aida sampler I got very even stitches but they could be mistaken for Buttonhole Couching.

The yellow, mauve and green colours really show the stitch off nicely! Your examples on the dark background are so inspirational.

It's always useful to find new ways to couch some of these fantastically textured threads!

You're right - dark background shows off the thread nicely. Unfortunately dark fabric is hard to work on - can't see well!

It is too easy to be tempted into buying those fantastically textured threads and then realize that one does not have the opportunity to use them - until one finds a nice couching stitch like this one!

I love seeing how different each of your examples looks using the same stitch but different threads, ribbons and/or fibers. How fun!

The corded coral stitch would make nice tendrils on a jellyfish.

Very nice samples. It is interesting to see how different the stitches look with the different threads.

Kind of a fancy couching style. I have tried braid but not ribbon. I wonder how that bunched ribbon wears.

Nice sample. I love what that stitch does with thick, unusual threads.
Lots of possibilities.

This stitch has so many looks just by changing the threads.

Yes!

Yes, the finer the base thread the more discreet the stitch line. Use a wider thread and the Coral couching will show up.

Yes, it is fancy. The ribbon won't last long on an item that is used. This is only for decoration.
