We have been to Rumania and Hungary and will remain in Europe a bit longer.
So let's move south to Balkan and try our hands at the Bosnian Stitch.
French name: Point de Bosnie.
It has a dramatic look, yet is very easy to work.
Start from the right and made vertical straight stitches
(When this stitch is worked from left to right and the slanted stitches go the other way, the name changes to either Fence Stitch or Barrier Stitch, and is a French stitch rather than Bosnian.)
Your Homework
will be to fill in the next square on the 'fake' canvas.

I think this is a reversible stitch, too, isn't it?
You are right, it does have a dramatic look. Thanks for the geography, as well as stitch, lesson.
The slanted stitches can go from left to right or right to left, but they have different names as I mentioned above.
There is also a stitch known as Yugoslav Border Stitch, where both stitches are slanting like a string of VVVVVVVV. This stitch is often interlaced, similar to how the Herringbone Stitch can be laced with a contrasting thread.
Ha, ha! I ought to have a map to show from where these stitches originate!
merci pour ce tour d'Europe des points de broderie,
C'est passionnant ;
le nom français de ce point est :
- point de Bosnie ou point bosniaque
Je l'ai vu aussi en anglais avec le nom de : Zigzag Holbein stitch

A lovely stitch for my to-do-list, but a complex way of stitching it. I think I should stitch it like the boerenhemdensteek, which you told me a few years ago was called glove stitch. (http://fat-quarter.blogspot.nl/2014/06/boerenhemdensteek.html)
Thanks for reminding me!
You are right, it is very similar to the Glove Stitch which is stitched in one go, two straight stitches in the same hole.
Bosnian Stitch has to be worked in two journeys.
I think the Glove Stitch gives a better result - it is easier to control the tension.
I will update the post with this information.
Thank you for the comment, Mattia:
thank you for this tour of Europe embroidery points,
It is exciting ;
the French name for this item is:
- point of Bosnia or Bosnian point
I also saw it in English with the name of: Zigzag Holbein stitch
Hey Queenie, stop tempting me with all these great stitches. I just don't have time to do them. Hang on, I have over 20 hours on the flight to the USA coming up, maybe stitching them could be used to fill in the time?
There will NEVER be enough time to do ALL we want - so just relax and 'smell the roses' instead.
