Work In Progress Wednesday - Elna is Snacking on a Snake Sandwich

It is snacking time at Work In Progress Wednesday.

A week ago, late Wednesday night, after blogging about the preparation I had made to sandwich and baste Trinity Green, I actually lined up and layered the backing, the wadding and the flimsy. It took me only three hours to crawl on the floor and baste the entire quilt! Believe it or not, I did not have any pain in my knees or a sore back the next day either!

Since then I have been feeding my Elna sewing machine with the sandwiched quilt:

Elna has munched her way through the 'snakes', the columns of triangles, and not brought anything back up - yet!

Working with the walking foot is much easier than I expected, and I now only need the time to work and this stitch-in-the-ditch job will be completed.

After that I will do some free motion quilting on the 'tagliatelle' strips. That part of the cooking might be a wee bit more difficult...

Good to see it going to well so far, even if you're worried about the free motion element..

Wow, three hours of work with no pains or aches! That's wonderful.
Your Elna is snacking on some beautiful colors.
Very exciting.

Very well done Queenie. I admire your tenacity for completing a difficult job. Not much room to feed the bulk and heavy to support. I am surprised your arms/back were not aching.

TG is indeed bulky and heavy, but I am propping up the bulk on a chair and use rubber gloves. I think that is the trick to no strain on the arms and back. I was more surprised that my body did not protest the crawling on the floor bit.

I will have to practice on some scraps and then be careful with the movement of such a large quilt. I hope it won't slip and the needle break.

YOUR quilts are small and 'manageable' but this one is a challenge. I am amazed I got no pain from the sandwich making. Yes, Elna is happy to gobble up the greens, she must be a vegetarian!

getting excited about seeing this completed have so enjoyed the journey with on on the making of this. Quilt in the ditch is a struggle for me I seem to go anywhere except the ditch!

That is looking good. I love my walking foot, it makes quilting straight lines so much easier. I bought a couple of classes on Craftsy about Quilting with a walking foot and they were very good. The tutor was Jacquie Gering and the classes were "Creative Quilting with your walking foot and Next steps with your walking foot" They show that you can do a lot more than just straight lines.
I am very impressed with your tacking abilities.

I am getting impatient to see the end of this project. I've been working on this quilt for more than 14 months now! Time to finish!

I m happy the quilting is going so smoothly. I really want to finish this quilt soon!

Finally I have reached this point, and I am getting restless. I want to see the quilt on the bed!

You have been following this process for a long time, 14 months! Yes, sometimes my walking foot steps out of the ditch, too!

The walking foot works a treat, but sometimes the 'foot' takes a sidestep out of the ditch. I have no idea what else you can do with a walking foot, than walk! I will have to check out Jacquie Gerings ideas.
Take a lot of rest - your eyes are worth that!

You are nearing the end and the quilt is looking good, I haven't tried a walking foot but I hear that they are a lot better.

I am surprised and delighted that it works so well.
