In September of last year I posted a picture of a
summary sampler I had made of the first 33 TAST(2012) stitches. It featured a colourful bird, with the area around its body still being bare. I have now added the remaining 19 stitches in this area. To make the bird stand out I worked the surroundings only in light blue, to blend in with the fabric.
Many of the stitches are raised and give the surface an embossed look.
Here are Pistil, Drizzle stitches and Raised Herringbone Band with Inverted Feather stitches in the foreground, somewhat blurry.
Buttonhole Eyelet Flowers and Triangular Feather stitches.
For the bird's red crest feathers I used the Open and Closed Base Needlewoven Picots. Some of them are topped with beads.

well Queenie you really have excelled yourself, this is one of the best pieces of embroidery I have seen, it is a wonderful sampler of all the tast stitches. beautiful.
That is just beautiful. I hope your are having it framed and hung in a prominent position?
Oh, Margaret! You are too kind!
At the moment it is resting on a large pillow on the bed, making it look like an embroidered cushion. When it has had its rest I will think of a future home for it.
What a beautiful piece of work where ever you decide to put it it will surly brighten up that space.
Hi Queenie, your bird is just gorgeous :)
Are you going to frame it ??
I wish you a nice week-end,
Isa
Thank you, Pippa
I will need to put it in a place where I can easily refer to the various stitches when I want to make something else.
Thank you, Isa
I might put a 'hanging sleeve' on the back and use a small bar to display it, like you do with a quilt.
Oh Queenie, this is a magnificent bird (including the surroundings) and just something to dream of. I love it!
Your bird is absolutely wonderful, it is such a beautiful way to have on hand the tast stitches.
Thank you, Brighid
I was fun to make and good to have for future references.
Thank you for your kind words. Yes, it is good to have a sampler handy when you need to be reminded of the stitches you have learned.
Wonderful design I love the idea to picture a colorful bird against a quiet bluish background.
This is marvelous! What a wonderful way to keep a TAST sampler!
Excellent work, good to look at and a reference of all the 2012 stitches in one place.
This is amazing! Just so beautiful :)
What a lovely bird I think your stitches are wonderful so neat and perfect.
Well done
Thank you Marjolein.
I liked the bird too much to want to have anything else in the picture and settled for the light blue background. I must confess, it was a bit boring working all this in only one colour range.
Thank you, Sustaz.
Thank you, Linda
I am quite happy to refer to this bird when I need a certain stitch. Only problem is there are no names of the stitches... so I'll still need my notes!
Thank you.
Are you taking the Sumptuous Surface Embroidery course? I though so when I saw your name. You have some fantastic crazy quilt blocks on your blog!
THANK YOU!
I love reading your comments. Have a great day!
WOW, was the first thing that came to my mind.It looks stunning.
Wonderful, wonderful. A joy to look at. You indeed deserve your name, Queenie, it makes me want to do something similar - you are my inspiration.
How very kind of you, but I have not one single drop of Royal blood in my veins! I know as I often prick myself while sewing and the blood that comes out is red, not blue, ha, ha!
Thank you for your reaction!
Wonderful,Amazing ...A real inspiration to do one like this. So much to see and learn ..I spend a good time to go through each part of it. Your stitches are so perfect!! Like to do one like this but I have not touched my needles for the past few weeks for some personal reason:( and one more week will certainly come back to catch up all the new stitches :)
Thank you. Latha
It is always such a pleasure to get your support and encouragement. I was wondering if all was OK with you as I have not heard from you, or seen your blogging for some time. I've missed you! I hope you will get back on track soon.
All the best.
Queenie
WOW WOW WOW, Queenie. This work makes me speechless! Congratulation! I admire and love this piece of art! Really wonderful!
Oh, Claudia,
That is very kind of you, although I know you have seen a lot of wonderful things in Paris just recently! I'm glad you had a good time.
This is such a stunning piece of art and so beautifully designed and stitched. The colours are simply wonderful too. An amazing TAST bird.
What a terrific way to summarize the year of stitches. I especially appreciate the monochromatic background -- it draws my attention even more than the colorful area! Of course, your work is beautiful! And "TASTy Bird"? Perfect! LOL
Amazing Queenie. All in one bird. You are very creative. Lovely sampler.
what a wonderfull work. It is absolutely gorgeous !
Thank you , Jenny, you are too kind.
Hi, Gail!
It was fun to play with the name of TAST!
At first I thought it would be difficult to see and distinguish the various stitches when they were worked in monochrome light blue, but there is both movement and calm at the same time, don't you think.
Thank you for your kind comments.
Thank you, Shami.
I think the heart shaped sampler you are building at the moment is a great idea, too.
Thank you , Isabelle, for all your support and the kind words.
Yes, I am. I am excited and nervous all at once. This is all very new to me, but I'm jumping in :)
It will be my first online course as well and am very much looking forward to it.
You would have loved the stitchery and embellishments I saw in Yesterday's quilt show in Ikebukuro. That is so very pretty!
A most enjoyable part of visiting shows is collecting ideas and inspiration. I wish I would have the opportunity to go, alas ...
OH Wow! I am utterly captivated and inspired. What a gorgeous sampler design. I pinned it on my embroidery board on pinterest. http://pinterest.com/madroka/embroidery/
