A great stitch! Easy and quick to do, and you get instant satisfaction. The only con is that it uses up a lot of thread.

WIPW - Three More Circles

Work In Progress Wednesday, well there is not much progress in my work to report.

Circles Challenge
I have now completed 17 blocks for the circles and need three more. The parts have been cut but not stitched into blocks.

Freeform Embroidery
is also progressing at a snail's pace.
The three new additional stitches are: Square Boss, X-Ray Stitch and Smyrna Stitch.

Glowing Stars
I am working on the altered design.... sigh...

Sunday Stitch School - Lesson 112: Raised Close Herringbone Stitch

In Japan autumn is here and leaves are falling off the trees. In other parts of the world it is spring and leaves are budding and unfolding.

So how about a nice leaf stitch to celebrate the seasonal changes?

Raised Close Herringbone Stitch is just such a nice stitch. I found it in A-Z of Embroidery Stitches 2.

Work it like this:
Mark a leaf design on the fabric.
Make a vertical Straight Stitch at the bottom.
Take the needle out at the tip of the leaf.

Go under the Straight Stitch without picking up any of the fabric, from right to left.

Then take a horisontal stitch from right to left at the top.

Go under the Straight Stitch again, 

and again, and again, and again...
following the shape of the leaf.

until you have filled in the whole leaf.

Add a Straight Stitch for the stalk.

Homework:
these three samplers want some leaves!

Friday Homework for lesson 111: E Laced Edging

This stitch is easy to make and is so pretty, especially when worked in two different colours.

I do not know where this stitch got its name from, and I can assure you I did not name it. It has been pointed out to me that it is a name to avoid...
From now on I will refer to it as E Laced Edging, E for Elegant, Energetic, Economic, East, Editor, Earth, Efficient, Elder, Eleven, Eyelid, Extra, Elastic, Eighty, Elbow, Efficient, Egg, Emergency, Easter, Eel, Embassy, or why not Embroidery?
