Sunday Stitch School - Lesson 345: Barred Buttonhole Wheel

I guess you recognise this stitch:

It is called Buttonhole Wheel and I stitched this a LONG time ago while taking part in TAST (Take A Stitch Tuesday), led by Sharon Boggon of Pintangle.

Today, we turn to the Royal School of Needlework's Stitch Bank and learn a variation of the same stitch. It is called Barred Buttonhole Wheel. The main point is that instead of one hole in the middle, you use four holes.

The link to RSN's Stitch Bank is here.

My photo tutorial can be seen below:

Mark a cross to see four holes.

Widen the holes with a stiletto or thick needle.

Draw the circle.

After adding (three) stitches for the first hole,
move to the second hole and add the same number of spikes.

Then move to the third and fourth holes.

Connect the circle.

Remove the markings with water.

You can, of course, also stitch over a button with four holes.
