WIPW - Ice Cream Please!

I don't know how I have managed to make any progress at all for my Work In Progress Wednesday. It has been SWELTERINGLY hot in Tokyo. However, I have had a good week and completed the vanilla and lavender ice cream block of

Crazy for Crazy

The Dorset button as well as the one from my stash are on. So are the beads and a number of embroidered areas.
Have a look:
I have used SSS#67 Fishbone Stitch for some leaves on a Stem Stitch stem.

I used the SSS#69 Point Russe Stitch but added more legs, then used needle weaving in two different threads. It made a nice fan. At the bottom arch I added a cut stone that was so glaring I just had to calm it down with some Shisha Stitch.

I have also made two butterflies out of Tripple Chain and Bullion Knot Stitch.

Before I start a new crazy quilt block, I will have to make a birthday card and thought I would use the pattern and instructions from Sachiko Morimoto's book on 'Drawing herbs and flowers with Stumpwork' (that translation of the title is mine).

I don't know how much progress there will be to report next week.
My friend CrazyQstitcher has worked all the stitches in the book, have a look at her lavender.

It's very hard to stitch when you're hot, isn't it! Well done for making any progress!

Thank you. The climate can hamper your stitching - in winter fingers stiff with cold can't hold a needle, in summer fingers slippery with perspiration can't hold a needle either!!

Excellent stitching, Queenie!
I love your Russe stitch with shisha stitch!
Is the triple chain stitch the same as Mille fleur stitch, I couldn’t quite see from your pretty butterflies.
Hugs,
Barbara

Beautiful work, Queenie.
Your combination stitches with beads are great.
Leaves and butterflies are a nice touch too.
And sounds like your birthday card will be lovely.
In spite of the heat you're getting a lot done!

Thank you for your praise.
No the tripple chain is not the same as Mille Flour. MF consists of three Detached Chain Stitches inside one another. Tripple Chain is made up of three Chain Stitches next to each other but varying in size, it is actually worked like a quarter of a Buttonhole Wheel BUT with the size gradually getting bigger.
I will have to make a small tutorial.

It was the first time for me to make such butterflies, super easy and with instant success!!!
Luckily today the temperature has dropped and it is almost bearable. However, a typhoon is heading our way.

Such a beautiful block. Enjoy that card-making. It looks right up your ally.

Just beautiful! It's a feast for the eyes.

Very very pretty! Isn't this heat incredible? Do you think it will cool off after the typhoon passes?

Queeniepatch said...

Yes, it will be fun to make the card.

Thank you. I love the colour combination.

Thank you.
Yes, it is HOT.
Yes, I think it will cool down a bit, and then maybe it will be hot again or stay rainy for most of August.

Here it is cool, there it is hot. I kind of remember what hot is, looks like it will be heading my way in a couple of months. That is one pretty block. Maybe you could frame it on it's own?

Tokyo will cool down during the weekend with the help of a typhoon!
Thank you for your comment, the block will go into the cq quilt with the other octagon blocks.

Lovely colours especially with the accents in the dark pinky red.

I fel the same, the bland purple needed more red and together they make a nice 'berry' look.

Your block is looking beautiful, you have done well with the heat. I've made no arty/crafty progress this week as I've had visitors staying.

Good for your to get a break from creative activities.
The heat here has been too tiring and then we had a typhoon that brought with it lots of moisture and strong winds. It cooled down a bit, but now the air is heating up again.

Ooooh, that would be nice! I’d like to make butterflies on the sampler I started some time back.
