Today we are looking at something called Puffy Couching, a method I found in A-Z of Embroidery Stitches 2.
Updated: French name: Couchure fantaisie "puffy"
You need either some thick woolen yarn or a hank of threads, folded in half and anchored down.
You then start couching with tight stitches.
Then lift up the hank of threads with the needle before you make the next couching stitch.
Continue until you have a bumpy line of couching.
You can vary the height and length of each bump, or keep them even.

This allows you to vary the texture of your line quite considerably, by changing the amount of "puff" or the length of the spaces. Or both!
I think this is a very useful stitch for plants, worms or insects. In the A-Z2 dictionary they used it for the body of a dragonfly.
Apart from what I can do on the scribble cloth, I think this could be good for the hair on a stumpwork portrait.
Ha, ha! I started this Sunday Stitch School project because I wanted to make use of my many embroidery books and stitch dictionaries. I have found most stitches in them, or on Pinterest, or on other blogs. There are so many stitches out there. Yes, it is a nice stitch, isn't it?
Another one that I haven't tried. It reminds me of a caterpillar.
Various threads will give various results, but also the tension and how close you put the couching stitches.
Personally I love the look of it.
I like it very much and your ideas too. Maybe even waves could be made.
