Friday Homework for Lesson 50: Bayeux Stitch

Oh, this is such a nice filling stitch!

On the cloth I used for the instructions last Sunday, I showed how to fill in the stitches in two ways, with the traditional Bayeux Stitch (on the right in the picture below) and the altered Bemmy Stitch (on the left), great for curvy lines.

On the cloth there remained the markings for another leaf.

So for my homework I filled in that leaf, I re-worked the large green leaf with a green couching thread. Furthermore, I made a flower and I played around with a double Stem-stitched edge and a contrasting couching thread.

I also worked a more traditional Bayeux design.

and finally I added the stitch to my Sunday Stitch School Reference Chart.
The Bayeux Stitch does not look very good worked in Perle! Wool is the thing for this stitch!

You're right, Bayeux stitch looks much better in wool!

The fluffy fibers help to cover the background.

Such a pretty filling stitch, I like your Bayeux design.

Wool is really great for filling stitches as the fluff hides the fabric underneath the stitches so well.
