First, let's look at the update for
Trinity Green
It wasn't a very green week! Only 81 triangles added. Total count 4.482.
I had to take this photo while the daylight was still sufficient - since then I have stitched those remaining triangles, and have three filled paper strips..
Fabric in Focus
Dots, another favourite pattern that quilters often use, are many in my collection. Some dots sneak in with other patterns (stars e.g.)
Now for the completed
H C Quilt
H C standsfor Himeji Castle. Together with Kumamoto and Matsumoto castles it is one of the most famous medieval fortresses in Japan and is visited by crowds of tourist every year. It is also known as the White Heron Castle, and in the recent renovation the roof was restored to its original white colour. In the old photograph I used for my drawing on the quilt, however, the roof is greyish, and so I used grey crayons.
You can read more about Himeji Castle and its long history here.
The progress I made this week:
I quilted some rays of sunshine with metallic thread.
Then the wind in the sky.
A bit more greenery.
I settled for black and white stripes for the border.Without too much trouble I made neat mitred corners.
Then framed the quilt
and hung it next to 'Kafferepet'.
It's rather small, the measurement is 54 cm x 65 cm.
The quilt has been given to an armchair traveller, with the hope that one day a real visit to the castle will be made.

It is so beautifully made.
The green triangles are so nice. the HC quilt is fabulous. it looks really big in details, meaning, your stitching is very neat and blemish less. That's a very useful information about the castle. A very nice gesture through this quilt. Best wishes!
Beautiful work and finish, Queenie.
The metallic thread embroidery was a good idea.
Beautiful, I have been following your progress on this piece, eager to see the final product. Love it.
I just love those Japanese castles in real time or in pictures, and yours is a fine work of art. So nice to see the finished hanging. Now, maybe one of these days we will get to see what you are going to do with the rows of stitchery and rows of triangles.
Fantastic!! A beautiful piece of artwork Queenie. I am sure the Armchair Traveler would be very happy with it.
It is good to be able to enlarge the photo.
I hope the trip to see the real castle does happen.
Triangles in green are coming up nicely. Very eager to see the finished one.Finished quilt is lovely with so much of details.
Wow I love the finished quilt, you have really captured the image of the castle and it looks lovely hung up
Even a few triangles adds to your total and that is growing. Your finished castle quilt is quite stunning. The recipient must feel blessed to receive it?
Love your HC quilt it looks amazing.
Well done
Thank you. It was fun to make, and oh I would have loved working on it in a cabin in North Norfolk with my friends H & H!
I have made a few experiments with 'assembly line' stitching, and found a quicker way to run the triangle 'conveyor belt', From now on it will get faster, I hope.
Yes, the armchair traveller was pleased as punch with the castle!
It is so rewarding to finally be able to HANG a quilt; you've seen in in the hoop for too long!
It was nice to have ONE quilt completed. Trinity Green is a quilt that will take a long time to make, only half the number of triangles needed are done!
The HC quilt was very well received and I hope it will give enough inspiration for a visit to the real castle.
One reason why the castles of Japan are so impressive is that they were often built at the top of a mountain (to see the enemy well in advance). Now 300 years later modern man can enjoy the view.
The TASTy stitch sampler will be a SAMPLER!
The green triangles will become a bed size quilt, but not until I have made another 4000 triangles and then put the strips of paper together.
Thank you, Jenni.
Did you see any castles when you were in Japan? There are so few historic buildings in this country, you need to look for castles or temples!
Spot on, Janie! Metallic thread was THE perfect choice for the sun rays.
Thank you, Gaia!
The castle is gorgeous. That is another place I want to visit!
It is high on my list, too!
Congrats on your finish, it's a beauty!
Thank you, Annet.
The quilting on the HC quilt is rather rough, but I wanted to have a 'sketched' look. Now I want to see the castle 'in the flesh' but will have to wait for more free time. Until then stay home and stitch!
Well done, it's brilliant!
Thank you!
Did you stitch the HC quilt in a frame or hoop? It looks wonderful! The metallic thread sun rays were a great idea! I'm glad The Armchair Traveller is enjoying the quilt!
Trinity Green is growing well! It's good you have found a faster way to construct it .... ideas come to us as we stitch, don't they!
Hugs, Barbara xx
What an artist! The Himeji Castle quilt is quite wonderful! Your drawing, the colors, the exquisite stitching and the bold striped border that brings out the starkness of the castle! Bravo!!
From seeing your lovely quilt, it looks like it would be a great place to visit.
Oh my goodness! Your HC Quilt turned out absolutely gorgeous! What a wonderful project. Beautiful.
