WIPW - A New Green Project

Work In Progress Wednesday features my new green project,

Trinity Green

I need a new bedcover.
I want to make a quilt.
I like green.
I have a lot of green fabric in my stash.
I want to make a dent in that green stash.
I will make a green quilt.
I like triangles.
I will make a quilt with green triangles.

I dragged out my green scraps and fat quarters.
I armed myself with graph paper, a green pencil, a ruler, a green cutting mat, a rotary cutter, a quilt ruler, fabric markers, scissors....
I drew a paper foundation pattern of triangles.
I made a lot of xerox copies.
I cut the green fabric into triangles. I cut some more, and more, and more...
I sorted the green cuttings into boxes.
I sewed the green triangles onto the paper.

I have to make a lot of these pieced paper slips...
I am facing a long and boring project....
Why did I give myself the green light?
After all, I am green, a beginner of paper foundation quilting.
I will soon be sick and tired of machine piecing, of green, and become green in the face.
My hair will not turn white, but green.
My home will be full of green fluff, when it should be full of green food stuff, like green salads and greengage from the greengrocer.
Machine piecing isn't a very green way of sewing, will it contribute to the greenhouse effect and emit greenhouse gas?
Should I propose a Green Paper on the Promotion of Hand Piecing and Hand Quilting alfresco, somewhere in the green belt around the Metropolis?
I could stitch by the golfcourse while watching the greenkeeper take care of the green?
Or I could sit on the village green and quilt while watching the green grass grow?
Or move into Granpa's old greenhouse and quilt there, as I haven't got any green fingers and can't grow green peppers, green beans or green onions ; they would soon be attacked by greenflies.
Wherever I quilt, I must take care not to stab myself in the fingers or they'll get infected and full of green pus and gangreen will set in. Oh, no it's spelled gangren...
It's time for me to take a break and drink a cup of green tea, before my brain grows green with mould.
Then I need to gear up the sewing machine and get on with Trinity Green.
Whatever you do, don't be green with envy of my new green project!

Thank you Shami.
I'm still at the computer as you can see. Now I really need to feed the sewing machine with some green stuff!

what a wonderfully written post re your green! It too is my favourite colour but would not be brave enough to have a go at this quilt best of luck and will follow your progress eagerly

If you run out of green, let me know. I have three buckle-boxes of greens ... light, medium, and dark. Glad you never lose your sense of humor.

It's not a colour I would WEAR often, but I like it for interior decoration, especially in the bedroom where I want to relax. The fear is of course, that this green quilt will remind me of the boring job and I will see red instead!!!

Ha, ha! I still have some uncut fabric so I might have enough for the entire quilt. However, I might have a lack of dark greens, so maybe one day in the far future when I have run out of dark shades I'll humbly ask to buy some of your veggy coloured FQs!

Isn't green a wonderful colour - every quilt in my house is somehow green. I love green. And in April there is lots of green outside - it is just to my taste. These triangles will be so beautiful because there are bits of other colours in them, too.

When you've finished it, everyone will be green with envy.

I guess green is the most prominent colour in nature, and that is why we feel comfortable with it.
Yes, you are right, there are other colours to liven up the GREEN in this quilt to be.

Then everyone will have to hang around for a LONG time, ha, ha!

A little at a time, you'll have it done. You have the 'Why did I start this?' blues. I've seen a lot of your beautiful work, I know you'll get this done!

Great project! Even though I like blue more than green, I think it will be a beautiful bed cover.

Queeniepatch said...

Thanks for your encouragement. As long as I don't see red and scrap the whole project!

Let's hope so! I haven't made a final plan for the entire design but will start with these strips of triangles.

Green is a lovely colour, you look very organised with all your pieces neatly in boxes. I will look forward to seeing your progress.

Very clever written piece. I also add some green to my quilts, reminds me of nature. Here in Melbourne, when we don't have rain for many days, our lawn turns brown, when the rain does fall, the lawn turns green overnight, it is a beautiful thing to see.

I will add the pieces at random with one side of darker shades and one of lighter. To make sure there are not too many of the same fabric in each strip I'll try to keep the pieces in boxes. We'll see how long they are in neat piles in the boxes!!!

Have you read Alexander McCall Smith's books set in Botswana (The No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency)? There he describes how the land turns instantly green with the first rain of the season after having been burned brown by the strong sunshine. Yes, nature is fantastic!

It was fun to read your green story, good luck with the sewing!

Ha, ha! I couldn't resist! Now I am trying out conveyor belt sewing, adding one new piece to several slips at the same time, then doing them in one go with the sewing machine.

So much green!, But then green things grow and bust into flowers and are beautiful, just like your green project is going to be.his But be careful that you don,t turn green because just like Kermit says, it isn,t easy being green. But again we wear green for luck so all this green may bring you some. You had better buy a lottery ticket just in case!

I FEEL green! I've been cutting up green triangles for hours this evening! I think it is going to be a nice green quilt, but I need luck and stamina to finish this project - and I've only just started. A lottery ticket, eh?!

Clever, clever post, it made me smile. Green is such a wonderful, restful colour, initially, but then you realise how many greens there are and have to decide whether they are green or are they really blue....good luck, I'm thinking green shamrocks!

A very amusing blog Queenie. I love green also.
What a challenge to take on but one that will give you years of pleasure when completed. I wish you a relaxing and enjoyable time in the making.

Thank you! It was fun to write up (after a black day of white patience dealing with flaming red anger, green envy and brown muddy language from a grey demented brain, (not MINE!!!).
Yes, you are right about the shades being difficult to distinguish, you will see green with hues of grey, brown, blue, purple, black, pink, white... amongst the triangles.

Thank you. I needed to break away from the bad mood of that day.
I hope too, that it will be a strong quilt with all that machine pieceing, and that I can enjoy it for many years - unless my eyes have gone by the time it is completed - dazzled by green!

Having just started my own paper piecing project I'm excited to see how yours turns out. Good luck!

Queeniepatch said...

I will use up every scrap of green fabric I have and then see how I can turn those paper strips into a bed size quilt.
Good luck with YOUR work; it will be interesting to follow.

Queeniepatch said...

I'm sorry my reply to your comment is long overdue. I will carry on adding green triangles as long as I have any fabric with green in it left.

Queeniepatch said...

It IS a great technique but also BORING!
Förlåt att det tagit mig så lång tid att svara. Både huvud och händer har varit fulla av allt möjligt. Ha en fin sommar!

Thanks! Green is a calming colour so even when I feel fed up or frustrated by the boredom of the project I can stay calm, and hopefully carry on!
