In this week's Work In Progress Wednesday report I can show you the completed
Pile 'em On
The background is made up of blocks of Canvas work, the flames of Pulled work and the circle is filled with 'any stitch' piled on top of other stitches, and made of 'orts' (short lenghts of thread). The border is crowded with linear stitches
and the 'icing on the cake' is a braid made of messy thread and beads
Now I want to start a project of neater stitches!

Extra! Birthday Cards
I also made some birthday cards:

pile `em on looks wonderful Queenie, certainly there are masses of stitches on it and the effect is so good, a great deal of work and planning has gone into this, wonder how many stitches you have done all together. Loving the birthday cards your friends will be delighted to receive one of these. Now to start your new project
Oh, it came out so nicely. How large is the finished piece? I hope you have a good spot to show it off. The cards are lovely too. Someone is going to be very happy to get them.
Thank you, Margaret. I am sorry I've been out of touch.
There are a great number of different stitches but no real planning has gone into this project. It was pure 'let off steam' sewing, and I feel very refreshed now!
Thanks Julie,
I'm pleased with it as I had no plan for it other than to let if grow as bushy as possible. Then I had a session of concentration with the Canvas work and no time to think of any problems. It was very refreshing. Zen meditation?
It measures 37 cm x 50 cm and yes, I have a good spot for it to hang until it is time to put up the cherry blossom quilt.
Beautiful proof of your spirit of creation - Pile em on is like a tapisserie of older times with modern flair.
Thank you for your kind comment. Someone else said it looked Japanese, especially in the colouring. To me it is a very personal sampler of stitches.
Your Pile'em On border finishes beautifully your work and your birthday cards are wonderful.
I really didn't think the Pile 'em on project was my cup of tea at all when you started, but I really love it. Well done on a big finish.
The finished pile em on is wonderful, I like how you have finished it off, it would make a lovely wall hanging. Your embroidered designs make beautiful cards
Congrats in your finish, it's gorgeous! I enjoyed watching it grow, thanks for sharing so many details.
Pile 'Em On turned out fabulous! Beautiful work. Your cards turned out great!
Pile em on is great Queenie, one of a kind.
Thank you. Made without a single plan!
That fringe suited the messy look, and the braid was just the right lenght, too!
It wasn't my cup of tea either, but just a project to channel my stress into. The result is a 'nice cup of thea, though!
Thank you, Susan. It IS a wall hanging, just the right size to catch your eye but not 'obtrusive'.
Thanks. I don't think I can name many of the Canvas stitches, though!
Thank you, Renee.
There was no stress in making the cards, so I enjoyed that. The Pile 'em On's sole purpuse was to have somewhere to let off my emotional steam and stress.
How creative!
Thank you, Pamela.
How are you enjoying your new 'home town'?
That piece is stunning and I love what you have done to bind the edges. Plus you have managed to do all those cards. Do you sleep?
Now I have to apologise for being slow to comment. My excuse is limited access to the computer.
Thank you for your kind words. I, too, have very limited access to the computer. And no, I do not sleep as many hours as I used to, and work much harder when I am awake than I have every done before. When I am lucky my job is just to be present, and THEN I can sew.
I am not working on a new wool embroidery, and HAVE managed to make good progress.
wonderful work on pile'em on looks stunningly beautiful! great work. the cards are lovely.
you have been working hard.
Your Pile em on will always be a one of a kind, unique to you.
It is a wonderful way to practice those stitch examples and the blue beaded trim goes so well with the piece. The flower and P-e-o center I really love.
Plan or not, it is well created and executed.
The cards are gorgeous. Some people will be very happy to receive one.
