In this last post about the Tokyo International Great Quilt Festival 2016 I will show an odd selection of pictures.
First is a detail of one of the framed quilts:
'From now on, enjoy' by Kayoko Kubo*「これから楽しみ」久保佳代子
...........
This was my absolute favourite:
'A gentle moment' by Ms Itoh (whose first name is read in either of these ways: Hiroko, Sachiko, Yoshiko or Masako, I think)*「優しいひととき」伊藤祐子
Isn't the quilt design just perfect?
Here is a quilt I liked, with the moon reflected in water:
made by Chizuko Takiyama*「水画(みなもも)の月」瀧山千津子
.............
As you can see, this is not a quilt.
It is paper poster for a 'poster quilt', featuring none other than Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit.
So why does it say 'poster quilt' and Yoko Saito?
Well, Yoko Saito and her group so successfully made the Moomin quilts two years ago. This year they took up the challenge of making quilts for 'The World of Peter Rabbit' to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Ms Potter's birth.
Yoko Saito, herself, made this quilt:
and it was featured on the official poster for the quilt show
Pretty good, don't you think?
To see more quilts from Beatix Potter's designs, check out Michelle Hill's report.
..............
I end this report with a quilt called
'Kiitos' by Chikako Ueno*上野知佳子
Kiitos is Finnish and means Thank you.
Chikako Ueno is a master quilter and apart from wall quilts makes beautiful bags (you can see one on the floor). She is a friend of my friend Julie, and told me she got the Finnish Marimekko fabric used in this wall quilt from a friend in Finland.
Talking of friends, Tanya made me this beautiful tatted bookmark.
Kiitos, Tanya!
So on this note of friendship I leave you with a big 'Kiitos' for reading my report.
PS. Tanya has just posted lots of beautiful photos of Log Cabin quilts. Don't miss them!

Great photo's thank you for sharing them with us. I love Yoko's quilt always a favourite Peter Rabbit .
more wonderful quilts Wieenie, like you the water lillies one gets my vote. Peter Rabbit is lovely too, a cuple of days ago it was announced they have found an unpublished book by Beatrice that is being published there were no illustrations but someone has done them, cannot recall what it is called something like the cross dressing cat! Seems right as it is the anniversary
Thanks for sharing the lovely quilts over the last few posts, I've enjoyed looking at them.
I agree, the water lily quilt looks peaceful and just right with color and design.
You are so right, Janie, I too, was drawn to the peacefulness and the colours of this quilt.
Hi, Linda!
Thank you for reading my blog, and I am so sorry my time is very limited and I have not visited your blog for ages.
Hello Margaret,
Yes, I have been told about the unpublished book. Apparently the illustrator will be Quentin Blake whose artwork is always amazing, but very different from Beatrix Potter's. I am looking forward to seeing what QB does!
Hello there!
Sorry I've been out of touch, it is still busy, busy, busy here. It was nice to have a day off my duties and enjoy the quilts. The Peter Rabbit quilts were stunning!
Well, one thing about not having time to do a post, is that everything is pretty well covered by my friends. All I will need is a bunch of links! Thanks so much for the day and the wonderful memories.
I have to agree with you that the "gentle moment" quilt is beautiful. I love Peter Rabbit too. It's always nice to see the artistry and skill that goes into quilt-making. Thanks for sharing the pics.
I love that you share these masterpieces with us! I am sitting here trying not to drool over my keyboard as I scroll through your blog posts. I would love to comment on my favorites, but it would almost be a repeat all 4 posts. Wow. There is some amazing talent out there. I do love the blocks you and your friends created for the friendship quilts. Beautiful work!
Ha, ha! Don't you try! We want to see YOUR pictures and read YOUR take on the show!
If and when you find the time to write your report, I want to read it.
I am sure you have already heard that they have found an unpublished manuscript by Beatrix Potter, and apparently she only made one illustration so Quentin Blake will be commissioned to do the rest. I wonder if anyone will make a quilt out of his illustrations, in 150 years' time!?
Dear Renee, I just wish I had had more time and energy to take more pictures and write up the reports. Unfortunately for this year I have to let others do the reporting.
Thank you for showing us all those wonderful quilts. I do like the 'waterlilly' quilt. Beautiful balance of colour shape and line.
Thank you for your posts on the Quilt Fest. I contributed a block for the Partnership Quilt but as I live outside Japan, am unable to visit the show in person, so your posts are very appreciated!
What a pity you did not contact me beforehand and I could have sought out your block and posted it on my blog.
Next year the theme is GARDENING, the size for each block has shrunk to 15 x 15 cm and the deadline is 31st July, just in case you want to prepare already.
That quilt is so tranquil.
Thanks for sharing these pictures. Like you I love the waterlilies quilt.
Many people gathered round that quilt; it was a real crowd stopper.
How beautiful the Beatrix Potter quilt is, it is a real show stopper. All the quilts have their own beauty and have been made with such skill.
Yes, it is charming, and so were all the others. Check out the photos that Michelle Hill took of the Beatrix Potter quitls. http://williammorrisandmichele.blogspot.jp/2016/01/tokyo-quilt-festval-part-2.html
NHK has a photo of every partnership quilt and names of each contributor on their website. I was pleasantly surprised they did this. How thoughtful of them. It's here if you'd like to take a look

I've read through the comments, maybe I missed the answer somewhere, but do you know if the Peter Rabbit exhibit will go on tour? And if so, will it come to the U.S.? Thank you in advance!
Hi Terry,
I am afraid I don't know. Why don't you contact Yoko Saito's staff on her Facebook site:
