Work In Progress Wednesday for this week is featuring my
'Conveyor Belt' needlecase
wool embroidery. I am stitching on black cashmere with Appleton wool. Wonderfully soft!
These are the shades I selected.
Last week I showed the design I had marked on the black cashmere, and
this is how it looks now.
It is far from completed, but was the most enjoyable work!

The weather in Tokyo is now cool enough for working with wool embroidery.
It was fun to just let the needle do the work!
I haven't touched wool yarn for 6 months so it was nice to play with this project.
Oh, I just love when a designer looks at my work and see things I haven't seen!!! What music do you think there is?
It was most enjoyable to just add colours and stitches as the fancy took me.
Appleton DO have some lovely shades and the yarn is so SOFT to work with (unlike many of the Swedish wool embroidery yarns).
I use a CLOVER liquid charcoal pen, and the markings stay on well on cotton but on this piece of cashmere it rubs off easily. One has to be quick and careful!!!

Lovely design, I like stitching with Appleton wool too. Luckily I found a shop in Amsterdam that has lots of Appleton wool.
Your cushion is gorgeous, Queenie, and I love your needlecases, such a lovely mix of colours! It's wonderful to be able to follow your stitching. I am sewing with Appletons wools too! And thinking of stitching on felt or wool, so it is very useful to know what type of marker pens you are using - thank you.

I was lucky to get a lot of Appleton yarn for Christmas and have many shades to choose from.
I was even luckier! I got many of my skeins of Appleton as a gift! Believe it or not but there are not many shops in Tokyo that sell wool for embroidery, The classic stranded cotton, yes, but other more unusual embroidery threads, no.
You make some impressive work yourself! I love the crewel work you show on your blog. Working with wool is very 'comfy' and perfect now that the summer heat is gone here in Japan.
Today my quilt group was admiring my needle case ... even the owl on top.

They look so good. I have some black wool fabric but I think the cashmire would be better. Where did you get that?

Just lovely looking needlecases Queenie. I have a small box of Appleton wool that someone gave me years ago that I have never done anything with. You have put yours to beautiful use.
And you could cut it up?
I am working on a dark wool felt at the moment and yes, one has to be quick :-)
I have realised that it was a waste of time drawing out the whole design in one go, as most of has gone now!

It is so easy to fall in love with soft wool. Don't you think this would be great for your owls?
Good idea, not to draw the whole design at the start of a new project.
No one I know can fit into the size of that old coat (belonged to a tiny old lady), part of it is worn out and the buttons had been removed and used for something else. It WAS destined for the bin, so why not use the material for my Swedish wool embroidery instead. So far I've made two wrist warmers, a collar and five needle cases...
