I have turned a corner with the embroidery on this quilt.
Swedish Cushion
To even out a blank area I added a cluster of TAST #30 Cast On stitches, although I already had inserted four Cast On stitches in another spot on the cushion in June.
TASTy Beads Galore
I worked three leaves in TAST #139 Beaded Bard Stitch. Sorry for the blurred picture.
The stem of the #135 Beaded Fern Stitch plant was extended and there is now a flower made with the same stitch as well.
Pile 'em On
More stray ends of orts ended up on this 'rough' free form embroidery.
TAST Reference Chart
TAST #138 Barb Stitch and #139 Beaded Barb Stitch found their way to the right boxes on the reference chart.
EXTRA! WIPW Chicken Scratch goes travelling again
On my Chicken Scratch cushion, that I started two years ago, and haven't work on since last November, I worked as far as I could on a recent train journey. Will I not progress on this again until next year November? Then I wonder how many years it will take to complete?!

Well, Julie, you can always MAKE deadlines to push yourself to complete projects, but it is nice to have something that can take forever, too.

The Chicken Scratch has a feel of Christmas being worked on red and white gingham, so I hope to finish the cushion in time for Christmas, maybe next year??!!

I love the look of Chicken Scratch; it's like magic how the checked fabric turns into 'lace', but the work itself can be a bit boring...

Such a neat corner on your Kafferepet, the slipped detached chain looks great! Love the new leaves on your TASTy Beads Galore, the beads make a pretty rib. It would be a nice feather in a wool thread. It was fun to travel back to your older posts about the chicken scratch. Maybe if you work on it when you’re not travelling it could be finished before you know, last year you told us 75% was finished. Just keep going!

It has been a busy, and rather good week.
With your sharp eyes for design you have noticed how the orts piece is taking shape. The hoop has been placed in the same spot every time I stitch and the marks after the hoop now leads me to see the beginning of a thready circle; 'Orts on the Moon' maybe?
You said that you want to spend less time blogging, and what do you do? You go and read my old post! I feel very honoured that you should spend time on than, and on looking carefully and coming up with suggestions.
The Chickn Scratch was (and still is) meant to be a project I could just grab and work on away from home. The quilt, cushion and beaded projects are either too large or in need of too many types of thread and beads - not practical for an on-the-go item. I will probably make another trip shortly and work on it again. The target, 90%, maybe?
the lace on the cushion with your edging gets prettier and prettier. Surprisingly, I am also thinking of working beaded barb stitch on leaves. yours are inspiring. I am still not very friendly with cast on stitches, but have to acknowledge they look good here. the samples on your reference chart are lovely. that's great looking chicken scratch cushion
I must admit it has taken me a lot of time to get to like the Cast On Stitch. Now I like it, almost love it. I think the key is the thread. Although often used in Brazilian embroidery where rayon thread is used I'd recommend using a thread with a better grip, or at least holding the cast on loops firmly while sliding the thread through them. I think that is the best way to avoid tangle and frustration.
I like to see your new additions. The Barb stitch makes a great circle/wreath. The beaded variety would make a lovely caterpillar. and you even make turning a corner so interesting and pretty with the Slipped Detached chain.
What a difference the white thread over or around the red squares can make. Looks like 2 different fabrics.
Chicken Scratch can transform the simple and homely gingham into the most elegant and intricate 'lace', not mine, but I have seen some examples of Chicken Magic on the internet that was stunning.
The Kafferepet is looking splendid and loving your beaded flowers, so much texture there !
