TAST #131 Beaded Lock Stitch

Sharon gave us another Lock Stitch, Beaded Lock Stitch, TAST #131. I have seen so many beautiful interpretations of this stitch by others that I think the possibilities are endless.

Here is my bead play:
Row one and two with Double Lock Stitch, row three with Lock Stitch on Aida. The thread is Coton á broder.
 Perle #5 on my sampler.
I loved playing around with beads on these curved designs in perle #8. It is hard to believe they are the same stitch, isn't it? Because I used a variegated thread,  the stitches in the middle design are both light blue and pink, while the beads are all pink. I should have stuck to a solid coloured thread.
I used Sharon's templates to draw the designs. If you want to learn the stitch, here is the link to Pintangle.

You've stitched some lovely variations and they look great in shapes. And you're right, it is hard to believe they are the same stitch.

I think the three variations of Lock Stitch (129, 130, 131) could make up a full embroidery design. If I only had the time...

Thank you. It was fun to 'stretch' the stitches.

The Lock stitch and its variations can be anything from elegant borders to curvy, organic plants or exotic marine life, don't you think?

Yes, I agree it is a beautiful heart, but I was most amazed by the shape in the middle. By using bugle beads for the base stitch you get a very sharp, metallic look, and the beaded Lock stitch on the edge is very flat and controlled. I still can not believe that they are the exact same stitches!
My hope is that one day in the (far) future a textile historian will find this piece and wonder what stitches I have used!

Fabulous variations Queenie ! Because this stitch is so versatile, and there are many others that metamorphasise and are unrecognisable, you could have a 'Name the stitch' weekly competition !

What a great idea! However, I am sure I would mistake many of my own stitches! It might be time for a stitch test again...

Great to hear that you have used it on your cq block.

Yes, the stitch works well on a curvy design like the heart.
