WIPW - When Life Gets in the Way

There isn't much progress to report on Work In Progress Wednesday when life gets in the way. It has been one of those weeks when needlework time was gobbled up by other chores.

Pile 'em On
Anyway I started adding bars of needle weaving to the centre.

 To make the weaving hassle free I used a slip of paper underneath.
A half finished flame of Drawn Faggot Filling Stitch was all I had time for. I found it slightly difficult and it took more time and concentration than I had to my disposal.


TASTY Beads Galore
There are only three beaded TAST stitches left to add; here is one of them, #125 Beaded Herringbone, inside last week's odd 'flower'. I used Gütermann Sulky in yellow and small blue beads.

Conveyor Belt Needle Cases
One more needle case base was made with various stitches in Appleton wool on cashmere.
 End of story!

    I can certainly relate to Life getting in the way! I wish I could find the time for such beautiful creative play! Your weaving is really lovely and exciting! I adore your work!

    I always enjoy seeing your work progress, beautiful and varied. The blue beads with yellow thread work so well tucked in there.

      It was a squeeze to the the Herringbone in there; this stitch needs a bit of room, both for the angle of the stitches and the beads.

    You accomplished a lot for not having much time! The needle weaving bars are great - I think it's difficult to get such even tension.

    Oh, but my plans were to achieve MUCH more!
    The paper slip helps to pack the weft of the needle weaving really tight.

    I love that wool embroidery. I can't wait for the cool weather to begin and I bet you are waiting for spring and the warm weather.

      The good thing about cold weather is that wool embroidery is cosy! Yes, I am awaiting spring and the cherry blossoms!

    The woven bars look good on the Pile-em-on. You are going so well with the flames. I'd be crazy by now trying to count the threads, so I raise my hat to you.
    The herringbone thread and beads compliment the paler blue beads nicely.
    I love the triangle and flower on the needlecase. It's pleasing to see how rows of stitch samples on work can change from a sample to artwork.

    Great idea with the slip of paper, Queenie. I never would have thought of that. The Appleton embroidery looks lovely. I love the effect it creates.

      The trick with the paper means any kind of weaving (woven picots e.g.) are fun and easy!
      Appleton is such a lovely yarn to stitch with.

    Queenie, you accomplishing so much with life getting in way this week, a great feat. Using paper for needle weaving over other stitches is a fantastic idea. Drawn faggot filling looks lovely and well worth the effort. beaded herringbone looks pretty tucked inside. The stitches with wool looks wonderful,

      Today I 'took revenge' and caught up with a lot of work - it felt so nice to be able to stitch and stitch and stitch! I enjoyed the needle weaving so much I think I will add some more and then add a number of Woven Picots as well - flames from the centre!

      When things get hassle free, the thread doesn't tangle and you don't prick your finger, then needlework is REALLY fun. A slip of paper makes a BIG difference.

    Lot's of progress for your busy week! Great idea to use paper for the woven bar. I did something simular with a paperclip and buttonhole bars a few years ago. Your scissor cases inspired me to finaly make one for my embroidery scissor, I hope to share it soon.

      It is of great help to lift the bar/warp threads you are working over off the foundation fabric with a piece of paper or plastic or paper clip.
      The wool embroidery is actually on a needle case but it serves perfectly as a scissors case, too! Looking forward to seeing your take on this.
