Pile 'em On
Layer upon layer of thread in the circle.
A new flame of Diagonal Drawn Filling Stitch. I found the instructions in A-Z of Embroidery Stitches 2.
TASTy Beads Galore
Some kind of strange growth has emerged from the stem I stitched last week.
The stitch used was TAST #113 Beaded Feathered Chain with bugle beads.
New and Completed
Three cards were made.
1) Swiss machine lace that I cut apart and assembled into a 'propeller', topped with a machine stitched shisha and then fastened with some simple stitches.
2) Painted heart shaped wooden buttons on felt with stems of Twisted Chain, TAST #73 Portuguese Stem, Whipped Stem and the leaves are #1 Fly- and Back Stitch
3) Painted star shaped wooden buttons on felt with stems of TAST #55 Buttonholed Herringbone and #105 Alternating Buttonholed Cable Chain (or rather Alternating Buttonhole Chain - there is no cable link)

ReplyDeleteYes, aren't those buttons fun? I have no child to make clothes for so thought the buttons could be used for cards instead.
DeleteThe new flame on pile them on is looking good. the beaded feathered chain with bugle bead does look strange , but also. interesting. the cards are very beautiful.my favourite is #3. Thanks for sharing the details.
ReplyDeleteThe pulled work on the flame was easy and relaxing to do. The piled on stitches made me 'let off steam' after a stressful day, the Beaded Feathered Chain is not so good (the thread is too thin, but only that could pass through the bugle beads), I think I like card #3 best, too.
DeleteYour Pile Em On is looking super and more colourful and neat than ever. Really like your use of the Buttonholed Herringbone and Alternating Buttonholed Cable Chain for stems on your cards.
ReplyDeleteThe final layer of the Pile 'em On's surface will be a bit tidier where you can identify various stitches, I am still just adding a thick layer of stray stitches.
DeleteI, too, like the structure of not only the buttons but the stitches, too. I am so glad I learned all these wonderful TAST stitches.
My fave this week is the 3rd card - stitching and star buttons.

ReplyDeleteI am very happy to have used several things that once was given to me. The Swiss machine lace comes from the daughter of a travelling salesman's sample book.

ReplyDeleteThank you. They are headed for birthday girls, 50, 89 and 89 years old. The two latter have no problems with their eyesight yet, but I thought the 3D effect could add the pleasure of TOUCHING the cards, soft felt, hard buttons, structured stitches...

DeleteI like all of your week's work. The sun looks so good up close and also the flames. You must have good eyesight to keep the patterns correct. Are you using a frame/hoop or just hand holding while you stitch the fine fabric?

and the cards...Ahh, so lovely. the hearts remind me of the pansy flowers in Disney's Fantasia. I like your TAST stitch stems. A satisfactory week's work I would say.

DeleteYes, I am using a hoop for the Pile 'em On (and the TASTy Beads Galore, which is hard with the beads constantly in the way!)
I enjoyed thinking up good TAST stitches for the stems on the cards. The cards are for elderly persons and I thought the structure of hard wood, soft felt and touch friendly stitches would be an extra bonus.
A good weeks work, I am liking the cards, the little heart and flower buttons are gorgeous, you have made beautiful cards with them.

DeleteThank you for your kind comments. I am actually running out of pulled work stitches, there are a few complicated ones left or I'll have to invent some of my own!
The thread-center looks lovely and the flames are getting more beautiful each time you show them.
