Sunday Stitch School - Lesson 65: Rosette Stitch Rose

I found today's stitch in the excellent book 'A-Z of Embroidery Stitches 2'.
This stitch will make a nice flower, or part of a flower.

Make it this way:


 Wind the thread anticlockwise around the needle.



When you have the desired number of wraps,

fix the top wraps with a pin,


pull the needle through and anchor the lower wraps,

remove the pin and anchor the top wraps.

Finished!

      It is fun to go stitch hunting, and I think this is a good find, useful for floral designs, or in the example above, a monogram of capital O.

      To me it is nice to have all the stitches I have tried collected in a sampler and I value my Reference Charts a lot. They are so useful when I am looking for a suitable stitch for a project.

      It is an easy stitch, and you can change the number of wraps, so there are different looks. Please not it does not take well to fingering or laundry! Purely a decorative stitch.

    That's interesting. I'm sure I've seen it before, but not named Rosette stitch... Still, it's a pretty stitch, whatever you call it!

    je suis contente de faire ce point que je n'avais pas osé faire jusqu'à présent. Il sera très utile pour les petites fleurs.
    Le nom français de ce point est facile cette semaine :
    - point de rosette

    I haven't used this stitch before and it's good to know it would be good for small flowers. I will keep it in mind for future use. Thanks for sharing.

      The smaller you make the circle of wraps, the steadier it is, so it is more useful for small flowers.

    Nice work, Queenie. They could easily be made to look like rose buds.
    I like your tasseled chain stitch too in green, pink and blue.

      Both the tasseled chain and the rosette stitch rose will be useful for floral displays. A change of tread will give a totally different look to both of them.
