WIPW - Mola Pouch

Work In Progress Wednesday today reports about a shelved Mola and a completed Mola.

This Mola bag

was shelved and no progress whatsoever was made.

However, this Mola pouch

 was designed, made up and completed into a small pouch during the week.
Had I had more time on my hands I would have slit more holes and displayed the more of the fabric lurking underneath the green top. As it was, I had to finish it quickly; it is a present for someone whose birthday is tomorrow.

MOLA - Snippets of Interest
Sometimes the reverse appliqué on original Mola is made through more than one layer of fabric - this tricks the eye to think a fabric is closer to the surface than it really is.

      I am interested in COSTUMES and as the Mola really is a part of the Cuna Indians folk costumes (and not a type of quilt(ing)), I want to know more and make these notes on the blog.

      The request was for green, but Mola needs contrast so I added the red.
      It is far more difficult than embroidery!

    I very much doubt the birthday recipient would see rough stitching in this wonderful fabric artwork but would be thinking of the love that went into the making.

    I like that idea. I need to make a new case for my cell phone as the old one walked or flew out of my car on the last campout. That would be a perfect style and not so large it would take forever to do like my vest.

    Oh, what a gorgeous present! I must try this!
    There’s a teeny project I’ve been meaning to stitch, and I’m intending to try stitching it Mola style, but just haven’t had time to start! Must buy better scissors though before I start!
    I hope to find some stitching time soon ......

      Yes, you need sharp scissors, and fabric that doesn't fray easily. I recommend batik or if not available, 'Fray Stop' liquid for the cut edges.
