A week ago, late Wednesday night, after blogging about the preparation I had made to sandwich and baste Trinity Green, I actually lined up and layered the backing, the wadding and the flimsy. It took me only three hours to crawl on the floor and baste the entire quilt! Believe it or not, I did not have any pain in my knees or a sore back the next day either!
Since then I have been feeding my Elna sewing machine with the sandwiched quilt:
Elna has munched her way through the 'snakes', the columns of triangles, and not brought anything back up - yet!
Working with the walking foot is much easier than I expected, and I now only need the time to work and this stitch-in-the-ditch job will be completed.
After that I will do some free motion quilting on the 'tagliatelle' strips. That part of the cooking might be a wee bit more difficult...

DeleteVery well done Queenie. I admire your tenacity for completing a difficult job. Not much room to feed the bulk and heavy to support. I am surprised your arms/back were not aching.
DeleteTG is indeed bulky and heavy, but I am propping up the bulk on a chair and use rubber gloves. I think that is the trick to no strain on the arms and back. I was more surprised that my body did not protest the crawling on the floor bit.

ReplyDeleteI will have to practice on some scraps and then be careful with the movement of such a large quilt. I hope it won't slip and the needle break.

YOUR quilts are small and 'manageable' but this one is a challenge. I am amazed I got no pain from the sandwich making. Yes, Elna is happy to gobble up the greens, she must be a vegetarian!

DeleteThat is looking good. I love my walking foot, it makes quilting straight lines so much easier. I bought a couple of classes on Craftsy about Quilting with a walking foot and they were very good. The tutor was Jacquie Gering and the classes were "Creative Quilting with your walking foot and Next steps with your walking foot" They show that you can do a lot more than just straight lines.

The walking foot works a treat, but sometimes the 'foot' takes a sidestep out of the ditch. I have no idea what else you can do with a walking foot, than walk! I will have to check out Jacquie Gerings ideas.
